''The Jeb Bush SOMEBODY Knows' -- (FINAL:) Part 25:

FL Voters from all Political Parties Explain Why They'll Vote for JEB!

by summer - a former Dem, now an independent and a FL certifed teacher

Welcome to Part 25, the final installment of my year-long editorial series about the actual record of FL Gov Jeb Bush.

If you missed Parts 1 through 24, click on my screen name and read through whatever topics are of interest to you. (This is an upbeat series, started back in August 2001, with lots of links to sources of information.)

For this final editorial, I wanted to bring to your attention the fact other FL citizens are doing exactly what I have tried to do here on FR for awhile now -- tell how the policies of Gov Bush has made a positive and personal impact on their lives.

"Floridians for Jeb" is a group of voters not organized as a group. They share no single political affiliation. From a GOP vet to a Dem elementary school principal and others, I believe these FL voters are speaking out now because they honestly want what's best for FL's future and their own futures.

Here's a few of the FL voters who have publicly spoken out, individually endorsing Gov Jeb Bush:

Sharon Breece, disabled veteran - 10/29/2002
Sharon Breece of Winter Park proudly served in the Navy during Vietnam. She was stationed in Hawaii during the war and received a service related disability....

Linda DeJesus, unemployed Floridian - 10/28/2002
Linda DeJesus from Pinellas County feels more secure about her finances thanks to Governor Jeb Bush....

Nolia Brandt, president and CEO of Brandt Information Systems - 10/25/2002
Nolia Brandt, president and CEO of Brandt Information Systems (BISI), has benefited from Governor Jeb Bush’s One Florida Initiative....

You can read more by clicking on FLORIDIANS FOR JEB!

BTW, when I started this series, I felt like no one on FR really knew much about Gov Bush's actual record, especially because I started out by writing about Gov Bush's very positive education record.

But, I hope people here on FR learned something new along the way. I know I did!

Thanks for checking out this final column as well.

:)

Thank you, FR and Jim, for allowing me to share my thoughts here about Gov Bush for over a year now.

And, thanks to the MANY FR posters who've bumped these threads, enabling others to see the info I posted.

In the final days of this election, I hope you'll bump this last thread too, because people who are lurking [and perhaps still undecided] may be inspired and surprised by what they hear in the varied voices of the MANY FL citizens who are, in fact, FLORIDIANS FOR JEB! :)!

I really like this one --

Joyce Ward, elementary school principal

Floridian For Jeb

Joyce Ward, a principal at Riverside Elementary School in Jackson County, is excited about the rising student achievement she has seen in her students as a result of Governor Bush’s A+ Plan.

Joyce, a registered Democrat, believes in Governor Bush’s A+ Plan. Joyce, teachers, students, and parents have worked hard to improve their school’s grade. Within the past year, Riverside Elementary has gone from a “D” school to an “A!” As a result of Governor Bushs’ A+ Plan, Joyce can clearly examine the needs of each student as well as the school. In addition, Jackson County School District received more than $45,000 in Just Read, Florida! to hire reading coaches.

As a result of Governor Bush’s A+ Plan, Joyce can clearly examine the needs of each student as well as the school.

The Challenge

Ensure that students are learning the skills they will need to succeed in life.

The Bush Solution

Since 1998, the percentage of A and B schools has doubled, funding for K-12 education has increased by $3 billion, a 27 percent increase in total funding, while student growth has increased by 10.5 percent.

Per student funding has increased by $736, or 15.1 percent.

Student achievement is rising due to increased accountability and statewide reading and mentoring programs.

Since 1999, the School Recognition Program has rewarded $304 million to improving and high-achieving schools, while low-performing schools are receiving additional targeted funding for proven methods to increase student learning.

Students’ skills in reading, writing and math are improving, and the achievement gap between minority and non-minority students is being reduced. This year, ten times as many African-American and Hispanic fourth-graders earned the highest score on the FCAT reading test than did in 1998.

“Because our school was to achieve a school grade of A, we are committed to working as a team to map our curriculum as well as examine the needs of each student,” said Joyce. “The total school community is focused on this goal, thank you Governor Bush.”

Cheryl Hedstrum, Democrat supporter

Floridian For Jeb

Cheryl Hedstrum, a registered Democrat from Lake County and a mother of three, has seen first hand the success of Governor Jeb Bush’s A+ Plan.

Though Cheryl is a registered Democrat, she is an avid believer in the accountability and higher standards of the A+ Plan. Today, she is confident that her children will receive a high-quality education, and go on to succeed at any college they choose to attend. Cheryl admires Governor Bush’s genuine care for helping all Floridians.

....

"Even though I am a registered Democrat, I want to re-elect Jeb Bush because I think he has done a great job with education in the state of Florida," said Cheryl. "I have three children in school, and I have seen the difference first hand. Thanks, Governor Bush!"

And this one! (In fact, they're all great!)

Alleen Miller, elementary school teacher

Floridian For Jeb

Alleen Miller, a teacher in Charlotte County, has noticed a great improvement in her school as a result of Governor Bush’s A+ Plan.

Ms. Miller has taught in Florida’s school system for thirty-eight years. Prior to 1998, Alleen, an experienced educator, witnessed first hand many of the flaws in the school system. Once the A+ Plus Plan was implemented; she saw a vast improvement in her students learning and reading skills. She is now confident about teachers receiving the proper training to educate their students. There is also more emphasis being placed on improving skills necessary for the children to succeed in today’s world.

Under Governor Bush’s A+ Plan, Alleen’s school, Sallie Jones Elementary, was graded an A+ school. She and her students are proud of what they have accomplished....

“ I am proud of being able to say that I teach at an A+ school and I have had parents tell me that they are using this instrument in helping them choose a school for their children to attend,” said Alleen. “I know that schools under Governor Bush’s leadership will continue to reach new heights and remain an exciting part of the state of Florida.”

Sharon Breece, disabled veteran

Floridian For Jeb

Sharon Breece of Winter Park proudly served in the Navy during Vietnam. She was stationed in Hawaii during the war and received a service related disability. Worried about her finances, she was relieved when Governor Bush increased homestead exemptions for disabled veterans.

This exemption began in 1933 and provided disabled veterans some added relief from their property taxes. It had never been raised, and was long overdue for an increase. This year, Governor Bush signed House Bill 165, raising the exemption for veteran homeowners from $500 to $5,000.

The Challenge

Assist our veterans who fought to defend our country and our freedoms.

The Bush Solution

This year, Governor Bush signed House Bill 165, which raised the homestead exemption for disabled veterans from $500 to $5,000, in addition to the standard $25,000 exemption for which all Florida homeowners are eligible.

Governor Bush signed other legislation to aid military personnel and their families, as well as Florida's veterans. These bills provide tuition benefits for children of military personnel, and high school diplomas for World War II and Korean War Veterans.

The Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation has started a Veterans Program to promote and maximize the employment of Florida's veterans.

“Governor Bush is up front and shows support for veterans,” said Sharon. “He really cares about the people of Florida.”

Linda DeJesus, unemployed Floridian

Floridian For Jeb

Linda DeJesus from Pinellas County feels more secure about her finances thanks to Governor Jeb Bush.

Linda unexpectedly lost her job and had to file for unemployment. She was approved to collect compensation and was told to call and file her claim. She called many times, but her case was backlogged. In desperation, she sent an email to Governor Jeb Bush asking him for help. Within three hours Linda’s email was answered, and Governor Bush resolved the problem. Due to Governor Jeb Bush, a 42-day-old problem was solved in 5 days!

The Challenge

The hard working citizens of Florida receiving just compensation during their time of need.

The Bush Solution

Jeb Bush believes it is his duty as Governor of Florida to serve Floridians in every way possible.

Governor Bush is known as the “E-Governor” as he works to advance technology to better serve citizens through e-mail and MyFlorida.com.

“My unemployment checks were bogged down in the system for 42 days. I emailed Governor Jeb Bush on July 8th and my problems were solved in 5 days,” said Linda. “He cares for people in need and gets the job done!”

Thanks, backhoe. You have been such a source of support and help. Without you and others like you, this series would not exist. Thank you so much for all your hard work in keeping this in front of people. In these final days and hours, I think good news is the best news for a harried voter to hear. :)

I think some Dem candidates may be getting a bit sensitive to that issue now, as I saw a tv commerical of a Dem canbdidate somewhere, praying, with his family, gathered around a dinner table. I thought: Who is this GOP candidate? Then the voiceover said: "These are DEM family values." I thought - Gee, I wonder how many people saw that commercial and before hearing the end of it, decided to go vote GOP! :)
