BRANDON - Racial politics surfaced in the gubernatorial race Sunday, as Republican Gov. Jeb Bush told largely white crowds that black activists Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton were in South Florida on behalf of Democrat Bill McBride - a claim the Democrats both denied and decried.
Each camp set out to rally its faithful Sunday. For Bush, that means conservative, mostly white Republicans.

These two Tribune authors are the ones who introduced race. In my quick reading of the article, I don't recall it saying anything about Jeb saying that Al Gore was in Florida.
Jeb went further, by saying that he'd rather have one George W. Bush than 50 times what the Democrats brought.
These two reporters really took Jeb's words out of context. Although the Tribune has endorsed Bush, it seems as if they're doing everything they can to sabotage his campaign.
I wonder if they have an ulterior motive. The latest Zogby poll shows Bush's lead substantially increasing over McBride. Could it be that the Tribune wants to sell more papers by having a closer race? Just asking.
If it had not been published by the Tampa Tribune as the leading front page headline article, or if it were in some minor publication with limited circulation, I would agree it should be trashed. But now that they have published it in such a prominent location, it looks like we "can't unring the bell". I am offended that the race baiting is falsely attributed to Jeb Bush by the two authors of this article, in a newpaper read throughout the state of Florida, and which has a significant circulation. Those who want to perpetuate racial division in the campaign will use its misleading emphasis as "evidence" that Jeb Bush is promiting racial divisiveness. I don't think anything could be further from the truth.
But, I respect your views.
Well, excuuuuuuuuuse me! To coopt a phrase from the Democrats, this complaint strikes me as "politics as usual"

Let me guess. In waving the bloody shirt here can we presume that this statement is intended to appeal to liberal, mostly black Democrats? With the usual support by NOW lesbians, illegal immigrants, naive college underclassmen and Gay Rights organizations?
The Democrats have resorted to the usual "class warfare" stuff again this election. Every one of their campaign ads that I've seen emphasized the "us vs. them" divisive theme.
I got news for the Democrats... You're going to lose in Florida. The People are getting wise to you.
The long & short of it?
...they're at it, again.
I caught that segment of Jeb last night and I knew there was gonna be trouble when I heard it; NOT because of what he said, but knowing what the media whores could and likely would do with it. These two probably might benefit from some contact, eh?
