Boy's family offers thanks

By Robert Boyer, STAFF WRITER

November 05, 2002

In a Monday press conference marked by tears, faith and remembrance, Christopher Dixon's family thanked all those who helped search for the missing teen. They said they still believe he was abducted.

"We are truly overwhelmed by grief at the loss of our Chris," said family spokeswoman Laura Gentry, Christopher's cousin. "But we are also experiencing a peace that passes all understanding." Christopher's father, David, also spoke to the media Monday at Peace Christian Church on Deep River Road.

Seven others, including Christopher's brother, David Jr., and sister Heather sat behind them on a couch.

Christopher, 13, of 2601 Gordon Road, vanished Oct. 24 shortly after returning home from school while retrieving garbage cans from the end of the driveway. more...

The family has maintained someone kidnapped the Shining Light Baptist Academy eighth-grader. Despite reaffirming that belief Monday, David Dixon said he doesn't plan to hire a private investigator. "The High Point police have told me if they do come across anything else, they would keep me informed," Dixon said. "I'm going to leave it at that."

I hope he changes his mind. If his boy was kidnapped and murdered or released to die accidentally, what is to prevent this from happening to someone else's child? If it was MY son, I'd want to KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that what happened to my child was truly an accident, even if all the circumstances surrounding his death could not be explained. If there was a suspicion that someone had a hand in his death, why should that person or persons go about their lives without fear of discovery?

What was the degree of decomposition to the body? Had it truly been in that location the whole time he was missing? May the truth come out.

Yes, I have always maintained that it would be better to err on the side of being wrong in calling it an abduction, at the very least for the sake of community safety. There could be a perp belly laughing at those saying it was an accident or runaway.

Coroner said that weather conditions made things difficult to access. Police and citizens have also searched under that bridge before Saturday and found nothing.

Good morning. Thanks again for the updates. Please let the family know that there's a lot of us who care about what they are going through.

There is definitely something wrong in this picture. No witnesses of this child fallen. Bookbag laying outside. Mother says child in good spirits even though he knew he was going to be punished for some minor incident at school.

To be continued...

It may be "to be continued ... ", but I doubt we'll ever see justice done for that child. I can't help it. I just stay angry over this. I guess because it seems to be so typical any more, how police handle things. I don't know if things have gotten worse, or if everything is just more higly profile due to the net. Whatever. I don't care. I just want those parents to have some peace.
