His political base in the northwest which is mainly conservative Churches abandoned him because he divorced his wife and remarried.

Lots of folks, even here on FR, say that he got his just rewards. But there is one less vote for a partial birth abortion ban so I'm not sure if their strategy was helpful to what they really stand for.
