Fox News just announced the Oregon referendum to establish free medical care for all residents paid for by the state is going down to defeat by 80% to 20% with about half the votes counted. High cost and people moving into the state for free care were the predominant reasons given by voters for rejecting the initiative.....

Would that we had such reasonable voters here in NJ.....

We get it right here sometimes in OR...even if we do have Tanya Harding.

Hillary Care gets bit-h slapped, AGAIN! Love it! To tell the truth I didn't expect the libs in Oregon to have this much sense.

Any Oregon FReepers have any word on the OR Gubanitorial race? I saw Mannix clinging to a 1% lead, but this story is lost in the national news. Gordon Smith is a shoe-in, as expected.

Damn! I wanted this to succeed, putting Oregon into a financial crisis so bad that they had to lay off the entire government staff, close all the state functions with the exception of health care!

This is outstanding! Not only was the referendum soundly defeated, the whole concept of socialized medicine was defeated. Thank you voters of Oregon for throwing this little bit of insanity on to the high trash pile of rejected liberal ideas.

It's not just the defeat, but the overwhelming rejection of it that is the good news.
I also think pollsters and the media were not telling people the truth. As late as Sunday there was a poll that said the referendum was too close to call, with the no's slightly ahead something like 45 to 41%. Yeah right.

I was hoping it would pass, so the rest of the country would see what a trainwreck it was. It would truly be a beacon warning what not to do. I fear we will have a national plan forced on us sometime down the road.

This is exactly the numbers Hillary will get if she runs in 04. I will give her 28% of the popular vote, max. Unless the US enters a depression and with GOP control, that ain't going to happen !

I fear we will have a national plan forced on us sometime down the road...if the final numbers on this were anything like the 80-20 reported here, I'd bet this would be the first example of how unworkable and unpopular the concept of socialized-medicine really is that would be tossed in the face of anyone foolish enough to suggest it, for a few years anyhow....a real repudiation, especially from a state as liberal as Oregon....
