The problem is that they probably meant it as a compliment.

"Ultra-liberal?"
Just to show you how crazed Pelosi is: She opposes any military action against Iraq because (PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT: PLEASE PLACE ALL BEVERAGES DOWN) it might damage the environment of the Persian Gulf region (I swear).
This is really too much to hope for in a few short days of glory. Can you imagine this wealthy liberal psycho-b*tch as the next House minority leader? She is so whacked, so devisive, so insane ...that the Republicans will domininate Congress for a generation.

Maybe he has read the direction the wind is blowing, and is angling for a job with a real news organization :-) :-) :-).

I wouldn't get too worked up about this. It's one thing for a local reporter who gets to report on the national feed once every six months to use such language; it's quite another to hear the anchors in New York say it.

Real progress will be when NPR starts calling her "that commie."

The more rabid Democrats have been screeching to "return to their Democratic roots" and stop trying to run toward the "middle". Just go read some of the lunatic rantings on internet Democratic websites. It would appear that they really believe that going to the far left is going to help them and Pelosi, an ultra-leftie from San Francisco, of all places, is a viable person as Minority Leader. in the House.
We have seen Minnesota Dems turn down Alan Page, a popular black Democrat in favor of an "old dead white male", Mondale. Wellstone's funeral was like a cheap remake of "Satyricon" . Babs Streisand keeps issuing the dumbest of statements for the DNC, and the Dems just keep shooting themselves in both feet. All we can do is step aside in amazement.

The "Democrat establishment" is wailing against the evolution of the "Democrat Party" because the "good ol' boys" are loosing control of the monster they created.

The same kind of labels were applied to her all night on almost every talking head show that was on. I was amazed. It sounds like the "mainstream" electronic media is terrified of the ratings that FNC is getting and does not want to be given the leftist label themselves. The DUhers are even bitching and moaning that the media is now sold out to the evil corporate right and that CNN was a tool of the RNC!!!!!

What is an "ultra-liberal"? I thought that the entire political spectrum consisted of "ultra-conservatives," "right wing conservatives," "conservatives" and "moderates."
At least, that's the entire political spectrum according to most of the media.
To: ThePythonicCow
Times they are a changing.Interesting. As you know, the networks are loathe to label liberals. Searches of news stories have revealed that news organizations apply the terms "conservative" and "right-wing" many, many more times than the counter-part terms.
If there is a shift in this practice, what accounts for it? Could it be the success of the Fox News Network? Viewership of the major networks is in major decline and there are even suggestions that the network news divisions may cease to exist as more Americans turn to the cable channels for news, especially Fox.
For years I wondered why our capitalistic system did not produce a "fair and balanced" competitor for the slanted networks' coverage. I felt the demand for such a network was present and good ratings would be assured. I felt that if one network emerged as a fair and balanced news source, the others might be eventually forced to follow suit. We shall see.

I'd like to hear: "Far left winger".

OK...It looks like Phase 1 of the meltdown of the DemocRAT party is complete (Last week's election)...Phase 2 is underway (Pelosi as Minority Leader of the House) and we're getting help with Phase 3 (Elect Barbara Boxer as Senate Minority Leader) from the idiots on DUhhh...

Good GOD...Why don't they just change the name of the Party to The Green Party and get it over with???
These clowns just REFUSE to let us stop gloating! This is absolutely BEAUTUFUL!!! (As oposed to Pelosi and Boxer).

Ultra-liberal, but never "radical left-wing extremist."

Politically speaking, she is a female Ted KennedyI'm not saying that in her personal life she is like him.....She's an ultraliberal, female Ted Kennedy...complete with a father and an older brother who were involved in politics.

I'm geting the distinct impression in the last two days that that media sees things as we do, and DOES NOT WANT Pelosi to win the job.
It seems that deep down they know she will marginalize the party even more than the clintons do.
