HAMMOND -- A poll released Tuesday by Southeastern Louisiana University shows incumbent Democrat Mary Landrieu leading Republican challenger Suzanne Haik Terrell in the U.S. Senate runoff.
Landrieu received 51.4 percent to Terrells 36.4 percent in the poll of 554 Louisiana voters. Just over 12 percent of those polled were undecided or refused to state a preference.
According to SLU associate professor of political science Kurt Corbello, who conducted the survey, turnout among black voters is critical to Landrieu.
The lower black voter turnout versus white voter turnout, the smaller becomes Landrieus lead, Corbello writes. If black voters turnout at a rate ten percent lower than white turnout, Landrieu leads Terrell by about 50 to 38 percent. At 20 percent lower black turnout, Landrieu leads Terrell by about 48 to 39 percent. If black voter turnout is 30 percent lower than white voter turnout, then Landrieu leads Terrell by only 47 to 41 percent.
According to the survey, Landrieu leads Terrell among women by 55 to 30 percent.
Both hold onto their party supporters, though independent voters are split at about 45 to 36 percent.
In addition, Landrieu does best in her home region of Southeast Louisiana, leading Terrell by 58 to 30 percent.
The margin of error for the poll is 4.2 percent.

I hope the Republicans come together in Louisiana. Stop the bickering for God's sake and put a supporter of the President in the Senate.
To: alnick
So basically this poll is saying that if all Blacks stay home, Terrell might win 50.1-49.9%?
To: alnick
Yeah...all the black folks better vote like the massuh's want them to.....sheesh.
To: alnick

You'd think the pollsters would be embarrassed to call people right now.

Landrieu received 51.4 percent to Terrells 36.4 percent in the poll. For those like myself who know what the #s were on Nov. 5, this is preposterous on its face.

Yep. Why would anyone believe a media-commissioned poll after last week's experience???

I thought I heard Rush say Landreiux was trailing in GOP polls.

Is this poll talking to likely voters, registered voters, or just whoever the heck answered the phone whether or not they have ever voted in their life?
To: newfreep
This poll is garbage. Remember the Zogby "Secret Sauce" poll that showed Tom Strickland beating Wayne Allard by a double digit margin? This is one that belongs in the same category. Don't believe everything you read in the liberal media.

Someone should check past polls by this organizsation. The current scandal and problem for polls is many Pubbies use cell phones exclusively and others have caller ID or just refuse to answer pollsters. An early poll like this would be suspect even without these caveats.

"Landrieu does best in her home region of Southeast Louisiana"
Poll was taken by Southeast Louisiana University!!
To: alnick
This poll is left-wing disinformation put out by leftist interests intended to break the morale of GOP supporters. We saw this last week.

Rush said on his radio show that he has information that indicated Landrieu would probably lose to Terrell. He said the information was confidential and at the present time he could nor disclose it or where it came from. He seemed very confident

".....the poll of 554 Louisiana voters." That's 554 "voters", not "likely voters."

I thought I heard Rush say Landreiux was trailing in GOP polls. I didn't hear Rush today, but it wouldn't surprise me. My understanding is Landrieu made a big issue about Louisiana keeping "clout" in Washington by re-electing her. With the Senate changeover, that issue's out the window and this election was just "nationalized." Voters know that a Republican vote is a vote for President Bush and a Dem vote is a vote for Daschle and Pelosi. Now, from what I know about Louisiana, voting for Daschle or Gore or Hillary or the rest of that bunch for President would go down about as easy a biegnet dipped in Tabasco sauce.

They're are asking us to believe that more than half the voters voted GOP then, but only 36% are now (and the biggest GOP vote-getter then is running with 27% of the vote locked in).
The GOP won 54% of the vote a week ago - are we to believe that close to 1/3 of those who voted GOP then are voting for Landrieu now? Lol... This poll is as scientific as six day Creationism.
