My thoughts turn to the "radioactive" cargo that turned out to be ceramice tiles. It is impossible to shield large amounts of radioactive material from sensitive detectors. I suspect there are detectors in space right now looking for suspicious ships.
The technology that was developed for radio astronomy and certainly detect any large quantity of radioactive material.
I rather doubt the feds would discuss this in any detail.
