Audit says Oliphant overspent Elections Office budget by $921,263

FORT LAUDERDALE – A 50-page audit released on Friday says embattled Broward Elections Supervisor Miriam Oliphant overspent her office budget by $921,263 last year.

The largest cost deficit -- $514,254 -- went for salaries and payroll related costs. Capital improvement expenditures were $273,715 over budget and operating costs were $133,294 over the budget.

The audit also concluded that Oliphant failed to discipline an employee who bought almost $14,000 in goods from a company owned by the employee's children. State law says the employee could be fired, but instead she got a 25 percent raise.

The dems will probably go through a show of responding to the audit findings, while delaying and preventing any real reforms. Privately, they will applaud her for eptomizing the finest in democrat ideals.

Remember Oliphant's name whenever the socialists talk of the "good ol' boy" problem in politics. She adds a whole new color/gender to the concept.

Democrats were hoping Oliphant would get fired before the election so they could blame it on Jeb Bush and tar his administration as racist. Jeb held back. The election is over and Jeb won. Oliphant is toast. The charges of racism will still come, but people will forget about it well before the next election.

I know Oliphant. Her stupidity can be forgiven. It isn't her fault she's as dumb as plywood. It's her arrogance that makes her so repulsive. The governor has the authority to remove her from office. The sooner the better, Jeb.

Can the Florida state government take over elections in counties that have a history of mismanaging them? If an amendment is needed to the state constitution before that can be done, do the Republicans now have big enough majorities in the state legislature to permit such an amendment?
