Hillary Clinton, who has led a relatively quiet life since winning a seat in the United States Senate two years ago, is expected to be chosen for a parliamentary Democratic leadership post that could expand her influence in the party.
The Democrats' Senate Leader Tom Daschle, will probably opt for her to head the Steering and Co-ordination Committee next year, Democratic sources said.
The post is responsible for keeping Senate Democrats in touch with and reaching out to the party's core supporters - from environmentalists and labour groups to blacks and Hispanics and outside groups as diverse as Democratic mayors to leaders in the field of technology.
Since her election in 2000, Senator Clinton has been focusing on New York issues and getting to know the Senate.
She is a leading party fund-raiser and is considered one of the Democrats' best strategists. "She is one of the smartest people in our party and knows how to deliver a political message better than anybody," said Al From, head of the Democratic Leadership Council.
She is particularly hated by Republicans. She was used during the recent midterm elections in Republican advertisements alongside Saddam Hussein. "Every time she wakes up in the morning she's a lightning rod for the right wing. We might as well use her talents," Mr From added.
Senator Clinton's office would neither confirm nor deny the report. "These decisions are made by the Democratic leadership, so we refer questions to them," her spokesman, Philippe Reines, said.
The committee position is held at present by John Kerry, who is expected to relinquish it soon to pursue a presidential bid in 2004. Senator Kerry, who has held the post since 1995, used it to expand his influence and build a network of supporters.
Bill Nelson, vice-chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, a panel that helps elect Democrats, said Senator Clinton's studied approach to her job had earned her much respect and had disarmed critics.
"There were some Republican senators who wanted to hate Hillary Clinton," Senator Nelson said. "They can't. What they have found is that they like her."
BAAAAAAAAAAWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA ROFL......Bring it on, please, bring it on.
News about Her Heinous must be delivered to all of her eventual subjects around the globe. (once Bubba takes over as Secretary Genreal of the UN and declares Martial Law)
THIS IS AN OUTRAGE - AN OUTRAGE, I SAY. TO BE COMPARED TO THIS WOMAN. AN OUTRAGE!
Signed:
Saddam Hussein
Studying is safe. It does not require her to mix it up with people, especially her constituents.
position is held at present by John Kerry. . . relinquish it soon to pursue a presidential bid in 2004. Senator Kerry, who has held the post since 1995, used it to expand his influence and build a network of supporters.
This is what this is all about. Someone is helping Hill to position herself for 2008. I can't imagine Kerry is happy about that, as he is not likely to take Pres. Bush's job in 2004, at least as things remain as they are now. So will this pit Kerry and Hill against each other in 2008?
And you never will.
You should know by now that the Clintons are not about DOING.... they're all about BEING.
(BEING in power, that is.)
Not only that, but she's also Bill Clinton's "Moral Compass," so he said.
