But, you see: "that" kid may well not be "it" nor the only one. That's why the nurse was saying the federal law exists, to tell you: any kid could have it. You don't know. And, sometimes, the infected kid doesn't know either, especially if the kid was only recently infected.

,,, life's full of risks. If I stopped my ten year old from participating in Tae Kwon-do or rugby, I'd be ripping him off in regard to a dimension of his personal development. He's a shortie with a lot of spirit and he's quite quick on the uptake. He emerses himself in the team spirit to pull off wins from time to time and he goes it alone to work thru belts and stripes in his self defence sport. Development and achievement the non MTV way! Kids need to run, jump, stretch and bend in order to develop. They need to know how to take physical and psycological knocks alike. If I wrapped him up in cotton wool and told him he was precious I'd then worry about him being iced in a bus accident on the way home. We could drown in the concept of being safe, couldn't we? How have we managed to survive thus far?

Why do we need a federal law for this? Are we now passing federal laws to regulate the game of Tag?

Seriously, when the law is federalized, it is not saying that any kid in the game could have it, it is saying that any kid anywhere can have it, all over a small group of kids playing on a schoolyard. That's what federalizing does -- it makes it apply equally to everyone anywhere in the country.

If government has to get involved (and that's a BIG if), then it should be the states that get involved, just in case some states don't see a problem in their schoolyards and don't want to be coerced into more regulations that take a sledghammer approach to swatting flies.
