Does anyone happen to know if the existing campus near Ann Arbor MI will remain open or be moved to Florida?
To: BlackElk
yes that was my thought also. Monaghan will insure it is Catholic, and not just in name only, unlike Georgetown U. here in DC.

Groshel and Chaput are closely affiliated with the work of Ave Maria. Groshel visits the campuses and the foundation frequently to lecture and inspire. Chaput is on the board of the law school.

Neuhaus has also visited and given a student retreat.

The whole kit and kaboodle will move south. I understand after speaking with one of the founders that the law school - while closely affiliated with the university - is independent and will remain in Ann Arbor indefinitely.

Oh Oh, Holy Cross is there and Providence College in Rhode Island along with Salve Regina (smaller) near Newport RI.
I am reminded of one thing as I read about the new college.
Nancy Pelosi graduated from Trinity in DC.

I think parents who went to college in the '50s and early '60s had no idea that Catholic universities had disintegrated by the '70s.
Yep. Count my mom in on that. She still thinks St. Louis University is Catholic.
Well, there is a big church there...

Thanks for the bump.
As more people return to the Catholic Church, I am sure that this will NOT be the last Catholic University built in the United States.
Let's hope it sticks to the basics.

**"It's a truly unique approach to educational and land planning," Marinelli said. "Developing both academic and community features at the same time allows us to create an environment where living and learning form an integrated whole. The campus will be an intrinsic part of the town, and participating in town life will be an enriching aspect of the university experience. Town residents will also benefit from the cultural and academic resources provided by the university."**
I think we will see more development around church, education and social/community needs.
Retirement Center
Youth Center
Retreat Center
And I could go on, but I know everyone gets the idea. Serve the community as well as your church.

Thanks for that info link.

I read the article but didn't catch specifics. Is this going to be out near Imoklee?Yes, this is going out near Immokalee. The area where they are putting the university is now farmland. I heard on WNOG (local talk radio) this morning that land values in Immokalee went up OVERNIGHT.

I just sent a copy of this to our Pastoral Council. What a way to dream!
We are having an All-Parish Visioning Day on Sunday. Who knows, maybe this little town in Oregon has its own version of Monaghan!
God bless!

This is wonderful.....pictures are great.
So many of the Catholic colleges here in the East are soooo liberal.

Shouldn't the campus be built like a giant pentagram eating a baby?
Jack Chick told me so!
There, now this thread has all the anti-Catholic bigotry it needs.
No further trolls need apply.
