I think parents who went to college in the '50s and early '60s had no idea that Catholic universities had disintegrated by the '70s. A lot of it had to do with the laicization of university boards of trustees in the late '60s, although heterodoxy spread within the hierarchy at the same time.

Yep. Count my mom in on that. She still thinks St. Louis University is Catholic.
