U.S. Forces Take Fire in 3 Afghanistan Incidents
By Kathleen T. Rhem

WASHINGTON, Nov. 20, 2002 -- U.S. forces in Afghanistan
took enemy fire Nov. 19 in three different incidents. No
Americans were injured.

The first incident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m.
local time. Unknown assailants fired automatic weapons
toward and above the firebase at Tarin Kowt, about 200
miles southwest of Kabul. Defense officials said a quick
reaction force was sent to investigate, but no other
details were available.

A Special Forces unit based in Jalalabad, about 60 miles
east of Kabul, was searching a compound for a suspected
weapons cache at about 7 a.m. local time when five persons
opened fire with AK-47 rifles. The attackers fled when the
soldiers returned fire, officials said.

The soldiers continued their search and took sniper fire
when they entered a building. They again returned fire and
may have wounded the sniper, though no one was found,
officials reported. The search confirmed the compound had
been used as a drug lab.

Early in the afternoon of Nov. 19, a Special Forces unit in
Asadabad, east of Kabul on the border with Pakistan,
reported enemy contact. Defense officials said A-10
Thunderbolts from Bagram responded and dropped two 500-
pound bombs and fired more than 300 30mm cannon rounds on
the target area. There was no information available on
enemy casualties.

A Defense Department spokesman said there was no indication
any of the incidents were related.

Finding the last little cover girl and seeing what the years did to her was heartbreaking.

Yes, it was, was't it ? She looked worn down and used up by life. It was good to know that she had survived, however, and I hope that life will go better for her now.

Will the conventional media EVER give President Bush and the US military credit for liberating the Afghanis? I doubt it.

The conventional media sucks pond water. That's why I come to FR to find what's really going on in the world. Your threads are one of my favorite stops. Thanx for the time and effort putting them together!

Same female.

For the doubters who would never believe the girl grew up to look like that, National Geographic had a lab do a retinal scan to make sure they had the same person.

I knew it was the same girl because the rest of her features look the same, especially those eyes. When I read the rest of the thread and they showed another picture of her grown up, in that one her nose did look the same. Maybe it was the lighting or angle or something that made her nose look different in the first one, it looked more like a hawk nose. It was interesting to see how she looks now, she really looks a lot older and tougher.

You're right. When I first saw the pictures some months ago, I was convinced someone had broken her nose because of that downward angle. If she was raised in an industrial country when she was first discovered, she would have made a decent living as a model.

When I think that people only have food, clothing and shelter if they're lucky, I have to remember there are also countries where a person is lucky to have food, clothing, shelter and no beatings from the spouse.
