U.S. captures al-Qaeda leader blamed in USS Cole attack

....

Authorities said al-Nashiri also planned the failed plot to bomb the USS Sullivan -- another destroyer docked in Yemen -- nine months before the Cole attack. Al-Nashiri, reportedly an expert in explosives and weapons training, has been involved in plotting other attacks against American military targets in the Gulf region and "possibly elsewhere," sources said.

A law-enforcement "watch list," distributed to police agencies in the United States in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks, identifies him as a "known al-Qaeda operative," who also goes by the name of Abdurahim Al Nashiri.

The watch list said al-Nashiri attended an al-Qaeda training camp in Afghanistan in 1997 after meeting al-Qaeda operatives four years earlier in Bosnia.

For the failed attack on the USS Sullivan, he paid the suicide bombers to purchase a smaller boat they were going to use, the watch list says. The boat sank when the plotters overloaded it with explosives.

If reports that al-Nashiri is cooperating with his interrogators are true, he would join bin Laden deputy Zubaydah in providing information. Officials have said that Zubaydah helped lead them to Jose Padilla, a U.S. citizen picked up in Chicago on suspicion of planning to scope out targets for a radioactive "dirty bomb."

One of the worst things about terrorism is that it makes you feel helpless. It is evil, and seems to be so powerful and able to hit and run. Its main purpose and goal is not to kill but to demoralize the society so that it does not have the will to fight.

Part of that demoralization is to make us act against what we know to be right. To just "nuke the pukes". This is a lesson I have learned from Israel, after being under the most intense terrorism in modern history, the Jews still act like police, not an avenging army.

And bit by bit, piece by piece the terrorists are hunted down, and captured when possible and killed when not. Like Bush, Sharon is not turning into a terrorist, but is acting within the law.

It is hard to be patient when you are hurt, but revenge is a dish best served cold.

The most important part in handling terrorists is to remember that justice must also be rightious or you become the animal you are hunting down. If they can make us act like them, then they have won. No matter how hard they try to convince themselves that murder and torture is a "godly" thing, their concience knows that they are murders and worse. When we respond as we have by following the law, and not just bombing their children back, it shows those who are not beyond redemption they are wrong. It puts weakness in the enemy camp, and can re-moralize them.

We cannot stop a suicidal man by fear of death, but we can by giving him hope for life. It is the only human thing we can do in the face of unspeakable inhumanity.

It gets pretty cold in the Balkans during winter. I don't mind the wait. Balkan posters on FreeRepublic have waited the longest.

As always, Destro, you can't resist the lie that undermines your argument. Yor headline reads "trained in Bosnia", when the body of the text says "trained in Afgahanistan"

He was in Bosnia 4 years before he went to Afghanistan!!!

Since al-Nashiri is a leading commander in al-Qaeda he attended those campse in Afghanistan not to train but to teach based on the learning he attained in his years in Bosnia.
