Al on Remainder ( Bore's books aren't selling well )

COUNTING EVERY READER

Al Gore is said by associates to be surprised that his newest books on family aren't selling well. The pair of books co-written with wife Tipper Gore (one of them is a coffee-table book intended to serve as companion to the "heavier" tome) are apparently headed toward the remainder bin as bookstores move more popular and potential Christmas gift fare into the line of sight of customers.

"We aren't selling any," says a sales associate for Borders Books in Bethesda, Maryland. "And we thought given that this is kind of a political book and that it's by Gore that it would sell in this area."

It hasn't worked out that way. The audiences at Gore's book signings have been skimpy, and worse, those that do come to hear him haven't been buying the books. In San Francisco, Gore's appearances were met by crowds of people apparently rounded up by his former Northern California presidential campaign staff. "We were invited to come and cheer him on," says a former volunteer. "We were chanting, 'Gore in 2004,' and he loved it. But I wasn't going to buy the book."

The Gore books haven't yet cracked the New York Times bestseller list after more than three weeks in stores, an indication that it won't make the list. "They tried getting them [The Sunday New York Times Book Review] to list it as a book in the 'Bear in Mind' section, so at least it would make the page where the bestseller list is placed, but we couldn't even get that," says a former Gore aide. "It's another indication the public isn't buying Gore as a serious candidate in 2004."

The Prowler won't go so far. We see it as an indication that the American public is still in recovery from Earth in the Balance.

Gore is like yesterday's trash.

This is what a Gore run in 2004 will look like, too.

ROTFLMAO

Apparently, it's is easier to buy voters than it is to motivate buyers.

They may have been chanting "Gore in 2004" but I ain't buyin' that either!

Well he can always follow the example set by William Jennings Bryan and be a perpetual loser. I'm sure that the Rat party would keep throwing their support to him (snicker...).

It's 1,928 on the Amazon List. But be prepared to upchuck at the 6 star reviews given by True Gorons ... one even called it an "important book". Ha!

It seems like it was a marketing flop. Gore's supporters would never buy a book which honors the family they despise, while those who honor the institution of the family would never buy a book from Gore they despise.

And his crummy books have been touted to the heavens on every national network morning show ad nauseum! What book tour ever had such a fawning network television red carpet rolled out, day after barf alert day?

Compare Algore's invisible sales to the mega sales of Coulter, Goldberg and Hannity which had only negative reviews on network TV. It just shows how irrelelvent lamestream network televsion is becoming to politics compared to radio, the internet, and FOX.

First exit poll of the 2004 presidential season. I'd say the verdict on the Gorebatross is in. Not even the liberals want him as the Democratic Party nominee.

I surfed by C-SPAN the other day while they were covering a booking signing at a bookstore. I saw an old lady put a piece of paper in front of Gore and ask him to sign it. I chuckled then, too.

I once knew a man named Gore
Who was an incredible bore
Said his wife to a tree
You're more exciting than he
But he stuck his tongue down her throat on national tv and she changed her mind

5 out of 5 stars Family Not What You Assume, November 20, 2002
Reviewer: A reader from USA
The Publisher's Weekly review really shows their own bias and narrow mindedness in questioning whether or not people of different ethnic backgrounds are "family" and admitting to being confused by images like this. After all the name of the book is "The Spirit Of Family." If you enjoy photo coffee table books you'll enjoy this one. If your mind is open you'll get some value out of this book. Challenge yourself to think outside of mainstream media driven stereotypes that are flashed at us on the television. Don't assume because you see a Caucasian adult with a child of a different race that they will require "two checks"! Would you ask that question if both people were of the same ethnic background? After all how many ten year olds have you seen buy their own lunch or dinner!

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly
Complemented by a three-page introduction and a smattering of quotes from John Milton, Plato and others, this impressive collection showcases more than 250 photographs of contemporary American families, taken by the likes of Nan Goldin, David LaChapelle, Sally Mann and Nicholas Nixon. The so-called spirit of these images ranges from heartbreaking to smile inducing. Al and Tipper have arranged the photographs by theme (e.g., photos of farming families, families at mealtime, couples reading the paper, parents smoking around children, white children with black nannies, etc.). Without explanations, some are confusing, e.g., two little girls-one white, one black-stand side-by-side in their bathing suits. Are they sisters? Cousins? Friends? Yet this approach allows the more complex work here to maintain its socio-sexual zing. A nervous-looking bride walks through a park with her fiance, while a couple sits on a nearby park bench, kissing. A trio of pudgy adults smiles as they dig into a meal of ribs, corn on the cob and Diet Pepsi. Teens mourn over the casket of a classmate. A laughing woman sprays a young girl with a garden hose. A family of four stands at a busy intersection in Manhattan, underneath a Calvin Klein billboard showing an underwear-clad hunk. The book includes families from all walks of life and potential voting demographics-and it is oddly successful at describing the beauty and awkwardness of family in its current incarnations, including same-sex couples. The ambient tolerance, plus a few less-than-clothed figures, may provoke responses from a variety of camps.

The last elections, radio verses TV, right versus left book sales: it all adds up to a huge paradigm shift.

The 'rats are stuck in the tar pits of time; their base is too busy watching MTV, BETV and Jackass, and don't vote.

The emperor had no clothes. Algore was surrounded by synchophants and an adoring press. It seemed like a good idea at the time to release 2 books at once.

Welcome to the reality of an open market of ideas. It won't even make "required" college reading lists like Earth in the Balance.

Oh, goody!

I like to take books by liberals out back and shoot holes in them and then leave them in coffeeshops and other leftist Schumerholes. Usually, I have to get them at used book sales so I can afford lots of targets. Sounds like I might be able to collect a bunch for cheap at the bookstores now!

"Amanda Feilding lives in a charming flat looking over London's river with her companion, Joey Mellen, and their infant son, Rock. She is a successful painter, and she and Joey have an art gallery in a fashionable street of the King's Road. Another of her talents is for politics. At the last two General Elections she stood for Parliament in Chelsea, more than doubling her vote on the second occasion from 49 to 139. It does not sound much, but the cause for which she stands is unfamiliar and lacks obvious appeal. Feilding and her voters demand that trepanning operations be made freely available on the National Health. Trepanation means cutting a hole in your skull."

Now I know why Hillary!, Gore, et al want to socialize health care.

You know, it doesn't surprise me that the pictures in the book are vaguely disturbing.

During the democratic national convention, those of us monitoring the event on C-SPAN were treated to a video of Gore and his family, and a tour of their home. Gore went to special pains to make sure the cameraman caught the NUDE, SELF-PORTRAIT OF TIPPER THAT SHE PAINTED WHEN APPROXIMATELY 8 MONTHS PREGNANT WITH NOTHING HIDDEN. This picture was hanging in the hallway, where her children and grandchild could see it. This was shown to the entire convention and on national television.

Tipper is quite disturbed, in my opinion, and Gore is obviously nuts.

Coupled with the fact that this is a book that has NO market in paying customers, I think we can expect it to hit the remainder bins any day.

In fact, I think we should have a contest to see who spots it first at Half-Price Books.
