I could definitely have watched a longer program, but I enjoyed this. I expected both Patti and Ron to get in a dig or two, but they were respectful.
What really got to me was Nancy. Whatever anyone may say about her, she must love Ronald Reagan more than anyone on this earth. And I think he loved her the same way. It was very touching to hear her speak.

I watched. I remember Reagan and his policy decisions from when I was a kid. He always seemed fair and honest to me, although I was too young to really grasp the impact of his policies.
I lean libertarian, and I found myself agreeing with quite a bit of what he said. The documentary was really well organized, and seemed a beautiful tribute to this man's life. I was sorry to learn a few years back that his health is failing. I pray that God blesses him and his family and allows his remaining years to be as pleasent as possible. Reagan is a wonderful man and a patriot.

Geez, are we watching the same program? I'm 40 minutes in, and it's been nothing but a hit piece.

Actually, it turns out I missed the first hour. Maybe that was where all the good things were said.

Watching it now. All us FReepers at one time or another bemoan our situation with RATs and other evils that threaten liberty. Something bad happens and we get long in the mouth.
Many of you were there in the late 70s. Remember just how bad it was.
This great man saw not what America was at that time, but what he knew it could and should become. And he led us in that direction.
He is responsible for my interest in conservativism which opened a whole world of political and later philosophical inquest.
His inner strength, clarity, honesty and optimism are traits he had in such abundance that I've yet to ever see them in one person before.
If I ever feel self-pity or despair, I think of only one man and how he chose to see the world in order to remind me - Ronald Reagan. It's a great day to be an American.

The Canadian prime minister talks about Reagan's blind spot with acid rain and how it was going to destroy the environment, but Reagan didn't care. It always amazes me how problems like acid rain and AIDS disappear under a Democrat regime only to reappear later under a Republican. Yes, but the PM also pointed out that what made Reagan so great was his belief in his principles and to hell with his critics. The guy was spot on with that analysis.

Regarding the show: Everybody was kind and gratious. Maybe Ron rubbed off on even his adversaries in some ways. Ron Jr. was great. Patty was quite refreshing as well.
The Secret Service guy at the end was a killer though. Getting choked up isn't really part of a GenXer like myself, but I was.

she found conservatives too simplistic because they saw everything in black and white. Uh...wouldn't that describe the liberals of today? Conservatives still see things in black and white. The problem is liberals think white is black, and black is white.

Mulroney
still has a mullet.
I love this special. Takes me back to my childhood.
Or as the Onion framed it:
Decision '80: Which message will resonate with American voters?
Carter: "Let's talk better mileage."
Reagan: "Kill the bastards."
