The Death Of Talk Radio
Radio Daily News ^ | 11-25-02 | Lynn Woolley

George W. Bush is President of the United States, and all is well with that particular portion of freedom of speech known as Talk Radio. Perhaps and perhaps not. With Bush in the White House, talk radio gets a reprieve, but not a pardon. The new man to watch is Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle. Concerned that no liberal answer to Rush Limbaugh has yet appeared on the national scene, Daschle and his disciples may yet attempt to return to the Bad Old Days of government control of radio talk.

The signs are there for anyone who cares to notice them -- emerging indications that some thoughts may no longer be acceptable. Of course, bad thoughts are usually conservative in nature.

When you analyze liberalism and how it works, you begin to realize that it flourishes in an atmosphere of intimidation. Certain ways of thinking become approved and are added to the liberal canon; wrong thinking is then punished, or the wrong thinker is ostracized. The modern term for this type of mental intimidation is "Political Correctness."

The Liberals version of free speach is thus: "You can say anything you want as long as it does not make a Liberal uncomfortable. That will be $1,000 to my Political Action committee."

Just a reminder:

The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism, but under the name of liberalism they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until one day America will be a socialist nation without ever knowing how it happened----
Norman Thomas, sic-time Socialist Party presidential candidate and one of the founder of the ACLU

The Democratic Socialists are bringing you Nancy Pelosi to join hands with Hillary Clinton, the DSA and the Black Caucus. All Socialists with no desire to maintain the United States Constitution---they have their own agenda - the taking of American Freedoms and they began that some 40 years ago with the Deliberate Dumbing Down of American Students from grade one through college.

Now the majority of the Democratic Congress and Senate are Socialists making socialist laws for our Republic. We have nearly stopped them by voting for a Republican Congress and Senate. But we can never let our guard down; watch the Democrats like a hawk!

Good post! I have seen it happen in the past 40 years (1962 to present time). I am grateful that my parents raised me to never be a part of the 60's and 70's women's lib nonsense and we have always voted Republican!

Yes, we need to watch the dems, but we need to watch the Republicans, as well. Republicans also vote for socialist program. Things like prescription drugs for seniors, housing programs, help with mortgages for minorities, etc. Don't kid yourself.

I couldn’t agree with you more! Most senior citizens have a partial pay program for drugs now. Those that don’t have such a program, the State usually has a program to help them where they live. Write your congressmen and tell them not to vote on a Drug Entitlement, it is just a vote getting boondoggle that has caught the political fancy of the times. It will be another huge bureaucratic mess, ripe for corruption and waste.

Hillary Clinton and all the other cradle to grave socialists will try to make this their issue. We need facts about the insurance people have now and get the information out. Any Freepers Health Insurance people? We need your help ASAP.

The FCC dissolved the Fairness Doctrine during the Reagan administration. I have begun to hear that phrase uttered by the commie/libs in the media. BEWARE

I say let these morons try to push the "fairness doctrine" back into the realm of broadcasting. Some radio stations with a slightly conservative bent have even tried it already -- and the left-wing hosts turn out to have such abysmal ratings that they don't last more than a few months. The experience of former New York governor Mario Cuomo on WABC in New York is a good example.

In fact, I'll go so far as to say that I'd love to see how this "fairness doctrine" is enforced. My guess is that it would be completely unenforceable for practical reasons. Nothing would prevent someone like Michael Savage from joining the ACLU and registering as a Democrat, then getting his show aired as the "left-wing" counterpart to Rush Limbaugh.

Like you I was raised in a Republican Family with my Mom having the radio on all the time in the kitchen and still does today. I can still remember my Dad getting mad at 60 minutes and their liberal commentators. He also had a bumperstrips that said he was one in 23 million who voted for Goldwater and In your Heart, you know he's right!

And am I grateful. My Mom is the one who turned me onto Rush Limbaugh when I heard him for the first time and called her -- she told me all about how great his program was and she was right.

The way it would work is -- since you don't have a liberal show, you can't have a conservitive show. Back to Fibber McGee and Molly.

I think you have that exactly backwards...Rush is too liberal for Savage.

Talk Radio will only be "fair" if the taxpayers no longer pay for Public Radio.

This appears to be an older article.

A quote from the full article: But now the Democrats have control of the Senate...

Another quote: The new man to watch is Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle. Concerned that no liberal answer to Rush Limbaugh has yet appeared on the national scene, Daschle and his disciples may yet attempt to return to the Bad Old Days of government control of radio talk.
