Python, Hyena Fight To Death

By Denis Ocwich
A STRANGE event took place at Katonga Wildlife Reserve, Kamwenge district last week. A python and a hyena fought each other over a water buck and in the end, all the three animals were dead.
It is the python which killed a young water buck. But as it started swallow it, the hyena pounced on it to snatch it from the python’s mouth.
“The two fought fiercely and it seems the python seriously injured the hyena, which also bit off the snake’s tail and parts of the head,” Joseph Ogwal, the warden at Kibale Conservation Area narrated.
The python is said to have died on the spot, but the hyena disappeared into the nearby bush where it also died later.
Ogwal said, “This is one of the interesting relationships that take place in the wild. The hyena is a highly dependent carnivore. the python is a predator which relies on stealth and power.”Ends
