BD was actually Brian Dowling, leader of the undefeated 1968 Yale football team, together with Calvin Hill. They were nationally ranked, along with Harvard, to whom they "lost" the infamous 29-29 tie game at the end of their senior seaon. That would make Trudeau class of 69 or somewhere thereabout. There are not many Billybobs who are sons of Eli.

I stand corrected on the quality of that Yale football team. Your note jogged my memory. The wags who rate football teams actually put Yale in the top 10, just before that Harvard game. (Though I thought Harvard won, not tied Yale, in that game.)

I'm almost certain that Trudeau was in the class of '65, however. His first work as a cartoonist appeared either in the Yale Record or in the Yale Daily News, I do not recall which. For decades I very much liked his work, until he went into his Johnny-one-note vendetta against the Republicans.

Billybob, '64 (Lordy, that was a LONG time ago)
