New Terrorist Assault 'Almost a Certainty,' 9/11 Probe Finds

Capitol Hill (CNSNews.com) - Results from the congressional inquiry into alleged intelligence failures leading up to the 9/11 terrorist attacks released Wednesday indicate a number of systemic problems with U.S. intelligence gathering, analysis, sharing, and response. The report was introduced with a somber warning from the co-chairman of the Joint House-Senate Intelligence Committee probe. "It is almost a certainty that, in the coming months, Americans will face another attempted terrorist assault; an assault that could quite possibly be on the same scale as that of September the 11th, 2001," Sen. Bob Graham (D-Fla.). "It is a certainty that such an attack will be attempted," Graham continued. "The question is whether we'll do a better job of intercepting it before it kills more people than we did prior to September the 11th." Graham made those remarks prior to releasing the declassified version of the Joint Committees' findings and recommendations. "The important point is that the intelligence community, for a variety of reasons, did not bring together and fully appreciate a range of information that could have greatly enhanced its chances of uncovering and preventing Osama Bin Laden's plan to attack these United States on September 11th, 2001," the committee's report states. Naw. Ya think?? Our tax dollars at work....

The only thing that will save us will be to create another cabinet level position. When in doubt increase the size of government. Pretty soon everyone will be working for the government except six farmers, two truck divers and a grocery clerk.

Just like it was before 9/11/01. The only difference is that in the past there were Soviets around ruthless enough to crush any such groups in their infancy, with extreme prejudice and without worry about what names the UN, Democrats, and Amnesty International would call them afterwards.

Let me reword this for the Congressman.

We're not going to bring access to this nation under control. Anyone can come here who wants to and we're perfectly willing to allow the destruction of men women and children of our own society to further that policy.

Through caos we gain ultimate control. Control is good. Freedom is bad. Terrorists thus become my and other public officials allies in the quest for complete and utter control of the American populace.

Rest assured, we are doing our best for the American public.

Funny. I read it as 'the fed cannot provide for national security, no matter how much money the citizens donate'.

That's all I get out of it.

I'm starting to think that we may not actually see the kind of horrific attack (comparable or worse to 9/11) that we have been warned about for over a year now. Will something else happen? Most likely yes...but perhaps on a lower level, such as suicide bombings, or only directed at overseas targets. We may be giving them more credit than they deserve...why hasn't anything happened since 9/11? Was September 11th simply an anomaly...a lucky one-off? If we ever get around to attacking Iraq and nothing happens in the immediate aftermath, then it would seem the danger may not be so imminent after all. Does that mean it could never or will never happen again? Certainly not...but the doomsday predictions seem to be getting a little stale.

With the government abdicating its only classical responsibility of providing for a common defense, it really has no choice but to pursue a policy of decentralization and encourage a well-armed citizenry.

Alas, even the central planners realize its over.

I think your take is valid. I'd think it might be the only valid opinion if they would do their best to control our borders, but still couldn't stop terrorism. As it is, they allow terrorists to slip in then explain that no matter what they do, "It'll" still happen. There's plenty of reasonable things they could do, but won't.

Umm my wife is an airline flight attendant and she just about had a heart attack going from Houston to Miami with three Arabs that she said just kept looking around and acting strange.

I think they will attack the airlines again just to put it in our face.

Her flight did have two Barney Fife's on board (Air Marshalls). I figure the next attack in a airliner cabin will include some sort of knockout gas or pepper spray to immobilize Barney.

I feel it in my bones, it'll be the airlines again. And the American people will feel such shame at not being able to stop it.

File this one in S for either "No <expletive deleted>, Dick Tracy" or "Saudi Arabia, Enemy".

Actually there is. With a few minor modifications a basement makes a good fallout shelter. With some more modifications you could include a "hideout" from biological or chemical attacks.

Also we came back from El Paso and went through the check point at Ft Stockton. Last year this time we went through the same checkpoint and it was a dog up on his hind legs paws on my window, in my face and some serious questioning from a serious Border Agent. This time it was "hi how are ya, have a nice day". The edge is off.

Forgot to mention the fellows on the plane had no luggage. If they aren't in a database for having the nerve to do that, somethings wrong.

Yeah, but then I'll be like those folks in the Twilight Zone episode, "The Shelter." You know, the one where all their neighbors pounded their way into the fallout shelter, thus rendering it useless. Or worse, I'll emerge from my shelter and find a world filled with murderous mutants, like Chuck Heston in "The Omega Man."

Far easier to keep the basement messy.
