Christian fundamentalists and American hegemony
Arab News ^ | 2002-12-12 | By Dr. Abdul Qader Tash

The American writer Grace Halsell did not exaggerate when she said that Christian Zionists in Washington were more dangerous than the Zionist lobby. In 1989, Muhammad Sammak translated Halsell’s book “Prophecy and Politics” into Arabic. The book discussed the dangers posed by militant Christian fundamentalists to the Arab world but Arab policy-makers did not pay much attention to her warnings.

Though a few Arab writers have written about the dangerous course taken by religious fundamentalists in the US, serious efforts have yet to be made to warn the Muslim and Arab public about the increasing influence of the anti-Muslim religious fundamentalist lobby in the United States.

It may not be a matter of pure accident that the Christian fundamentalists in Switzerland have established a new organization to elicit public support for Israel. The organization’s activities include encouraging Israel to continue with its expansionist policies. The organization recently issued a statement, which was endorsed by several Christian priests, to justify every Israeli act including the inhuman repression of Palestinians.

A founding leader of the Swiss organization, who is also a member of the country’s Parliament, said Israeli acts in the Palestine were only the execution of God’s will and that the whole of the Palestine should be “returned to Israel.” The best solution to the issue, according to him, would be to expel all the Palestinians from Palestine and send them to Jordan, Iraq or Egypt where they could establish an independent state.

The menacing call to drive out the Palestinians has been timed to coincide with US preparations to attack Iraq. The Christian fundamentalist leader, Pat Robertson, announced at a recent meeting that Israel had a legitimate right to take full control of Jerusalem and its neighborhoods. He added that Palestinians, who had no right over the Promised Land, should return to where they came from.

There are strong reasons to believe that Christian Zionists, including Robertson, aim to goad the US into launching a new crusade against Islam —- beginning with the occupation of Baghdad. The fundamentalist leaders also vie with each other in attacking Islamic traditions and values. They have also unleashed a malicious campaign to vilify the Prophet, peace be upon him, in the media across the United States and beyond its borders.

An unholy alliance between Christian Zionists and a group called neo-conservatives in key positions in the American administration has lately emerged. The alliance aims not only at supporting Israel as it fulfills its territorial ambitions but also at increasing the military might of the US in order to guarantee US domination of the world.

An American senator spelled out his nation’s ambition to control the world as long ago as 1898 when he said Americans were a race destined to defeat all other people. He urged his compatriots to dominate new markets and countries if the situation demanded it. Impotent civilizations and incompetent races should disappear under the feet of the lofty civilization built by the American people, he added.

The Americans still have the same mindset. They believe in the principle of survival of the strongest and the sovereignty of a superior race.

Sure, OK. It has nothing to do with the fact that muslims attacked us and continue to plan their next attack today. It has nothing to do with the fact that muslims have said that they will fight and kill until the US ceases to exist.

What an assh*&e! Go back to humping your goat.

Does anyone now doubt that the American Liberal media LOVE radical Islam, because (Arab fashion), they believe that "the enemy (radical Muslims) of my enemy (fundamentalist Christians) is my (as in, my Liberal ass's) friend."

Don't know to whom the Arab News is referrring. Perhaps Henry Cabot Lodge. Certainly Teddy Roosevelt wasn't too far removed from this philosophy.

That said, the story from Arab News is consistent with the common Arab response to 9-11:

1) Play down atrocities perpetrated against Americans and pretend those against Jews haven't occurred.

2) Promote Islamic paranoia by warning of anti-Muslim pressure groups influencing U.S. foreign policy.

3) Characterize Americans and Christians generally as congenitally disposed to political and religious imperialism.

It might refer to Albert Beveridge, US Senator from Indiana (1899-1911), a fervent supporter of American imperialism who gave a campaign speech on September 16, 1898 titled "The March of the Flag".

Yep, whip them into a frenzy. Tell them we are coming and it's just because they exist, nothing more. That's easier to do when the government controls the press as well.

A saudi muslim writes an editorial warning about the dangers of fundamentalism, and it's about christians! ROFLMAO. In regards to their own "fundamentalists", the continuing silence of "moderate" muslims speaks louder than any words...

To bigots like the Arabs, a Christian stating their opinion is a militant, just like an Islamic shredding women and children in a pizza parlor for allah.

They consider the words of concerned citizens as "dangerous". In their countrys opinions that disagree with them carry the death sentence.

Islam fears Christianity, as darkness fears light. It does not take much truth to destroy a lot of lies. That is why all dictatorships and philosophical forms of Government like Socialism, Marxism and Islam can only thrive in a society that has control over the media.

I half agree with that.

Rather, I think that American Liberals are attracted to any nation that hates America -- period.

For the too-many decades of the Cold War, they were the adoring sycophants of Stalin, Kruschev, Brezhnev, Mao, Castro and other Communist dictators for the simple reason that these murderous tyrants hated the U.S. and loved to demonstrate that hatred.

The poor American Liberals were just plain LOST in the 1990's with no powerful, vocal enemy of America to worship. They were a rudderless ship, drifting aimlessly, dreaming of the good old days as they gazed at their yellowing posters of Che on the wall.

Fortunately (from the Liberal point of view) a new and powerful enemy of America ended this 10-year-long drought when they announced their presence in a visually stupendous way on 9/11/01.

It's no accident that Islam had become the Beacon Of Hope for American Liberals in the last 14 months.

Their Credo: "The Enemy Of My Government Is My Friend".
