If it's proprietary gear then it's gonna be less usefull than a C-64! Although the technowledgy will probably sustain itself in govt & corporate levels. (i.e.: satelite phones) Especially by remote outfitters. Maybe it will accelerate if ANWAR goes into drilling / construction mode.

The feds would not be happy about 150,000 uplink stations pointing aimlessly into space. People might start aiming them at other satellites - - - big trouble.

Maybe Hughes will buy back the equipment at some pro rated cost.
