A range of foods made from reindeer has been launched in a UK store just days before Christmas.
London's Fortnum and Mason is stocking reindeer pate and reindeer stew.
The store in Piccadilly insisted the launch was not timed to coincide with Christmas.
The two products are made by Edible, a company which specialises in unusual delicacies such as chocolate-covered insects and snake wine.
Fortnum and Mason, which holds three Royal Warrants, began selling reindeer pate at £15 a jar and shredded meat stew for £14 around a month ago.
A spokeswoman for the store said: "We don't consider it a very sensitive product and as far as I know there haven't been any complains yet.
Edible, which has a shop in north London, said it accepted some people would inevitably make the link with Rudolph and company.
Both the pate and stew are made from reindeer meat which is farmed by native Sami herdsmen in the arctic region of Sweden.
Reindeer has one of the lowest fat contents of any red meat and contains only about 2% fat, according to Edible.

Funny, I passed by Fortnum and Mason's today. I should have gone in. The fellow who shot Bambi's mum is one of my heroes; having Rudolph for dinner isn't far off. ;)

While living in Alaska, Reindeer was one of our favorite meats. Almost a "sweet" meat. I'd buy the pate' any day.
Other than kids "fairy" tales, what the heck does Rudolph have to do with CHRIST'mas?
:o)

If it's glowing red, I'm not eating it.

Didn't one of your vicars just get into a spot of trouble for telling kids that Santa is dead? Wonder what'll happen to F&M once folks find out they're selling tinned Dasher, Donner, and Blitzen et al.?

Merry Christmas, all.

If it's glowing red, I'm not eating it. At least if there's a power failure, you'll know where you left your pate. ;)

Well when I passed by today, there was a crowd of people in there - it was really, really busy. I doubt it will have much effect - too many people depend on Fortnum and Mason's for their Christmas pudding.

Went back to Alaska last fall for a visit.
Ate Rudolph in the form of reindeer sausage.

Just read yesterday about a group of Germans who want Santa Claus to disappear. I wondered, Is it that he's too religious? Is he not religious enough? NO!!! It turns out that he's too AMERICAN!!!

A Merry Christmas to you, too! I love British Christmas pudding! We try to do one every year. I like British cuisine in general, actually. Except for the tinned reindeer. And stargazey pie :)

It turns out that he's too AMERICAN!!! This will come as a surprise to the Dutch; to them St. Nicholas Day is more important than Christmas itself as a holiday. Or at least it was until recently.

"It's a parable." Note the smiley face at the end of my post.
Merry Christmas.. Vets

Oh. I've become immune to smiley faces.

I like British cuisine in general, actually. What's that old gag about who has what responsibilities in Hell? The cooks are English, the police are German, the army is French, the railroad is Russian, etc...
Actually, British food is better than its reputation. Nothing better than a warm, flat glass of Watney's and a plate of bubble and squeak, or toad-in-the-hole, or bangers and mash, or kidney pie...

Try explaining to the kids that they are eating Dasher, Dancer and Vixen on Christmas day! *LOL*

Er, I hate to say so, but Reindeer meat is not too tasty - at least, caribou (a close relation) is noting like venison. I don't know why. There's something a bit donkey-like about them. Think of horse meat.

Think of the roast beef sandwich. Think of chips (or "French fries", as you call them).
