How do you bootstrap my contempt for what Lott said into having to defend Clinton. Clinton is and was scum. The fact that you are putting what Lott said on the same level with what the Democrats have done (e.g. awarding Fulbright and medal, Byrd using the words "white nigger", etc.) demonstrates exactly why Lott should step down as majority leader. In order to defend him, I have to point to what the Democrats have done and say 'see they do it, too.' Not being a criminal defense attorney, that is not the kind of defense I would like to adopt.

As for you name-calling me a Democrat, I take it you have run out of arguments to defend your position. In any event, in response, I will note the following. I am a conservative Republican and I have donated monies to Newt Gingrich (when he was Speaker), Tom Delay and George W. Bush. I vote straight Republican tickets whenever a vote occurs and in the past I voted for George Bush, Sr. (twice), I also voted for Bob Dole and of course I voted for GWB.

Ronald Reagan once said, "you can accomplish a lot if you don't care who gets credit." Unfortunately, some Freepers who formerly wanted Lott gone, now want him to stay because they are terrified that the libs might get some credit. The Freepers are willing to hamstring our president and his war on terror for the next two years because they're afraid that their political opponents might get some kudos from the liberal press.

If the GOP tosses Lott, the GOP gets the lion's share of credit. The onus will then be on the Democrats to deal with "Sheets" Byrd and Hollings. Why do many conservatives are defending the anti-conservative Lott is simply beyond me.

You miss my point. We don't have to lower ourselves to DNC standards to defend ourselves adequately. But you cannot ignore the moral hypocrisy of the Democrats who said not ONE WORD when Clinton bestowed the Presidential Medal of Honor on Fulbright, an avowed racist and segregationist. You asked what to tell your friends. I said you can tell them that everyone makes mistakes, even their Democratic officials, and give them the examples I posted to you previously. Yet, given the DNC mistakes, they seem to still vote Democrat. But you are worried they won't ever vote Republican because of the same sort of mistake made by one man. I don't understand the hypocrisy on their part, or the media's, or the Black Caucus.

I typed too quickly and didn't mean to imply that you are a Democrat, and should have reviewed my comments before hitting post. Trying to do too many things at once around the house so when my husband comes back from golf it won't look like all I did was Freep! Regards, Peach
