Haven't been there since the 60s but they used yellow headlights then - but only in rural areas. It was forbidden to drive with headlights in town so you had to watch out for fast moving black Citroens with tiny parking lights.

They got rid of the yellows. Used to be useful though at night to spot the foreigners. The Marseillais like to abuse foreign drivers.
