I think if blacks would do the same, and stop letting it bother them if they are called names, pretty soon, no one will call them names....During 17 years of living in New York City, I've never heard anyone call a black a racial epithet (excepting for other blacks, that is). In this town, it's the blacks who call other groups epithets.

I moved out to California when ten with my family from Brooklyn New York where I was born. I grew up the first part of my life there and NY was much more racist than out here in CA.
I think I heard everybody (all races) call everybody else some slur at one time or another because we were all ignorant kids and that was the mentality of NY.
NY also seemed to be segregated more by ethnicity as well.
It was a real night/day type difference when I got out here to CA. I heard almost nothing ever out here regarding stupid name calling like there was in NY.
I would say NY was an 8 and California a weak 2.
There was one ethnicity of people back east that always got physically violent (including against themselves) and I won't get into which one it was. The rest were mostly all mouth.
