Oh, I see. So, it's just a tradition, but not authorized by God. Okay. But what about this word Pergatory? I can't find it in my Bible.

I can't find it in my Bible.

In that case, you probably don't want to join attagirl in her prayer request. Or, you can.

"Oh, I see. So, it's just a tradition, but not authorized by God. Okay. But what about this word Pergatory? I can't find it in my Bible."

The words "Holy Trinity" or "Triune God" do not appear in the Bible either, but most Christians believe in that concept. In the same way, the concept of purtagory is also contained in the Bible, although the exact word is not.

Also, all things taught by the Lord or revealed to the Apostles for our use are not in written in the Bible. Following are quotes from scripture where the authors reference "tradition". Quotes are taken from the Biblemaster.com, from the New American Standard Version.

1 Corinthians 11:2 - Show Context - Read Chapter - View Original Greek | Discuss Verse Now I praise you because you remember me in everything and hold firmly to the traditions, just as I delivered them to you.

2 Thessalonians 2:15 - Show Context - Read Chapter - View Original Greek | Discuss Verse So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us.

Note that in neither passage does the author delineate each and every "tradition" taught or delivered to them. It is assumed the readers know, AND WILL PASS IT ON (i.e., it is "tradition").

The concept of purgatory is both contained in the Bible in concept, and passed down as a tradition of the Church from the Apostles.

May God have mercy on souls in purgatory.

Merry Christmas, and God Bless.
