Capital offenses, power and Harry Potter

The Miami blue butterfly hovers near extinction, a victim of hurricanes, mosquitoes, and troglodyte developers. Environmentalists weep and liberals blame the Bush administrations, presidential and gubernatorial.

These same butterfly mourners form a blockade against the teaching of Creationism because evolution is the origin of species. The liberal mind has tangled ganglia and mitochondria that prevent short-circuits for philosophical inconsistencies. They will not acknowledge that evolution, by its very definition, demands extinction.

Liberal brains are hotwired so that laws and order don't interfere with desires. With the Lott expulsion, conservatives use megawatt capacity trying to glean the liberal rules of play.

From the folks who preach tolerance, forgiveness and all manner of biological excuse for misdeeds, we witness nothing but judgment, penalties, and inconsistency. Sen. Lott needed his comeuppance for his shabby conduct, and conservatives said so. But why is Sen. Robert Byrd exonerated for worse remarks, including the "N" word?

Liberals leave us, once again, with the question, what is a capital offense? What conduct is so offensive to them that it is universally wrong?

Homicide is not a capital offense for Teddy Kennedy lives on in revered state despite Chappaquiddick, and O.J. Simpson walks the golf courses of the world in search of himself, the real killer, because LA detective Mark Fuhrman used the Byrd racial slur 11 years prior to investigating the Simpson murders.

Bribery is a capital offense only if said bribery causes your poll numbers to tank. Sen. Robert Torricelli, (NJ) (D) committed so many ethical violations, if not crimes, that even New Jersey's Cosa Nostra blushed. He was yanked from his re-election bid only when his poll numbers sagged perpetually.

Sexual misconduct once appeared to be a capital offense. Senator Bob Packwood was drummed out for stolen kisses. Clarence Thomas remains uninvited from campuses and discounted as a justice for charges of sexual harassment by a single scorned woman. Rep. Bob Livingston (R) was poised to become the Speaker of the House, but was ousted by Democrats from public life because he confessed to an extra-marital affair during Monica and Clinton, Kathleen and Clinton, Juanita and Clinton, Jesse Jackson and his love child and, well, you get the idea.

Corporate ties and exorbitant gains came close to being capital crimes. Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney still fight their respective Harken Energy and Halliburton battles over their enrichment during a market era when even monosyllabic GenXers became multi-millionaires. But, Mrs. Clinton's odd parlaying of $1,000 into $99,537 in the yippee-kay-ay commodities market using advice from a political donor got a free pass as did DNC chair Terry McAuliffe's $18 million windfall from a $100,000 investment in the now-bankrupt and under-investigation Global Crossing.

Zoe Baird and Kimba Wood, Clinton nominee and near-nominee for attorney general, were hurled from the Beltway for failure to pay nanny taxes, the wage taxes on caregivers for their children. Baird faced immigration questions on her hired help as well. But liberals marched conservative labor secretary nominee Linda Chavez out of the Beltway on a rail because of her complex financial arrangement in giving shelter and money to an illegal immigrant.

This singular act of consistency reveals the overarching premise of the liberal mind. Petty offenses bother the liberal mind, not the big ones. Sexual harassment is an issue, but adultery is human nature. Immigration and wage tax laws trump compassion. Racial slurs justify homicide.

Liberals do not adhere to universal, natural or eternal laws. They prefer the made-up rules for they are in charge. I marvel at their deftness with PC language rules. They have daily rule entries and resulting victims.

Under their rules, accountability and responsibility are banished by their beloved psychiatric DSM manual that includes a defense for every crime, an excuse for every nasty human habit and a disease to explain every poor human choice. Liberals make it all up as they go along. Rulebooks grow. New rulebooks develop. As keepers of the rules, they are perpetually employed as selective protectors of their followers with rapiers drawn for those who question the nonsensical rules.

Creationism frightens them so because of the possibility of divine ouster. Author J.K. Rawling's Harry Potter has a nemesis who mocks gallant Harry for his adherence to absolutes, "There is no good and evil, there is only power." Therein lies the consistency key to the secret chamber of the hopelessly inconsistent liberal mind.

"There is no good and evil, there is only power."

I've never heard the democrat philosophy so succinctly stated.

Now wouldn't it be nice if at least one Dem in a leadership position had the forthright candor to confess, "Yes, that's our guiding principle, all right."
