The other day I talked with a liberal/leftist - (a family member, unfortunately - I come from an ultra leftist family) who said that communism hasn't worked because it wasn't applied properly, but the "ideas" weren't at fault. She quickly had to admit, though, that once the personal incentive is taken away no one wants to work. She is (I hope!) a "stupid" leftist.
My husband escated from an eastern European country 20 years ago and saw communism up close and personal. It ruins countries and ruins people. People become lazy, irresponsible and dishonest (I'm speaking in generalities of course, there are always exceptions!). It's "who you know" - trying to hang out with the "in crowd" so you can get special priviliges and so forth. It brings out the worst in people. (What to speak of gulags!)
Having grown up with leftists and become a black sheep, I can agree with this article. And also with his point that Stupid leftists become evil - or they become smarter. The leftist philosphy perverts the human spirit.

Nothing against your family member, but this is a great example of why it's so hard to figure these people out.

How CAN one believe that "properly applying the ideas" of communism would work, when the incentive to produce is taken away, which she freely admitted to?

I wish I had a dollar for every time I've heard a lefty say that communism has failed, because it has yet to be administered correctly.

Only in a thriving capitalist country such as ours are Marxists really free to indulge their intellectual conceits about how well communism would work "if only properly administered." Like all vile parasites, they require a healthy host to feed and sustain them. When they become dominant and proliferate, they inject their noisome poisons into culture, society, and industry and eventually kill the host just as certainly and painfully as any black plague would do.
