My guess is Stromboli was named for the controversial Roman Senator Strom Boli on the occasion of his one-hundredth birthday. I believe Senator Trentus Lottius presided over the cermeony.

Sicily was a Greek suburb before Rome. Italy is named from a greek word meaning land of calves or sheep. Greek etymologists please corroborate.
