That armed encounter with the natives was in a place called Oka, in Quebec. Quite rightfully, the aboriginals did not want their sacred land turned into a golf course. It was a pretty nasty armed conflict as I recall. An example of the government pitting the military against it's people, only it ended as a standoff because the people were armed. The QPP tried to play soldier with assault rifles and got their butts kicked. Then they called in the real military to bail them out. Life suddenly changes when the natives your shooting at decide to shoot back, lol.
