Potential New Legal Problems for Al Sharpton's Campaign
Politics1 ^ | 1/4/03 | Politics1

A Sharpton spokesperson told AP Friday that the civil rights activist "expects to file papers with the Federal Election Commission on Jan. 21" to set up an exploratory committee. A FEC records check on Friday showed that, in fact, Sharpton has not yet filed any FEC paperwork. Likewise, an IRS records review shows no documentation of Sharpton having any registered federal PAC or political committee. If these federal records are correct, then Rev. Sharpton must explain [Sharpton Committees] how he has been able to operate a 2004 Presidential site online at SharptonExplore2004.com for months now. The copyright notice -- dated last year -- identifies the site owner as the "Sharpton Explore 2004 Committee." Further, the Contribute page has already been soliciting money for the DC-based "Rev. Al Sharpton Presidential Exploratory Committee" ...

If Sharpton has been raising money for an alleged fictitious or illegal committee for months now ... WHERE DID THE MONEY GO?

I don't think he's going to be nominated, the Democrat Party nomination belongs to Hillary Clinton. Lyndon LaRouche will get more votes than this guy.

THE DEMOCRATS HATE BLACKS AND FOR THAT REASON, ALONE, SHARPTON WILL NEVER BE THEIR CANDIDATE FOR ANY SIGNIFICANT OFFICE!!

This is just the first step in the efforts of DEMOCRATS to block his run for candidacy. Sure, there are a bunch of black fools in Congress, Hastings, Jackson-Lee, and McKinney, but the dems won't ever let one get to higher office because the democrats want blacks to be servile, not empowered.

THE DEMOCRATS WILL DO ANYTHING TO PREVENT AN INDEPENDENT BLACK MAN FROM OBTAINING POWER; THEY ARE RACISTS AND HATE BLACKS!

Donna Brazier has made it clear that she will have 'favorite son' candidates in the south to block Sharpton.

Bogus article!

According to FEC rules a person can explore until his heart's content and only has to file after a cross over of a floor on contributions/expenses. Who has given him any money? Surely not Arbusto! Wait till he files then see if anyone has given him money yet.

C,mon...he's planning to run as a democrat What do election laws have to do with it? We only apply those to Republicans. He'll be able to go to black churches all over the country, preach a sermon, give a speech AND pass the plate...but let a conservative Christian pastor endorse a pro-life candidate from his pulpit and watch how fast his tax exemption is threatened.

I'll bet that little factoid came straight from the DNC. They will ruin Sharpton before he has a chance to ruin them.

WHERE DID THE MONEY GO?

Don't know but would wager everything that I own that not one cent went to reimburse Rev. Sharpton's backers who paid Sharpton's $50,000+ Defamation judgement to Steven Pagones in 2001. The fact that there are people willing to vote for Rev. Sharpton after the Tawana Brawley Hoax is nauseating.

Donna Brazier has made it clear ...

If you are talking about Algore's campaign manager in 2000, I think you misspelled her name, Donna Brazile.

In the upcoming democratic primary (2004) ...

Register as a democrat and vote for Crazy Al!

Time magazine reported a while back that the Rev. Al Sharpton is planning to run for president in 2004.

"I feel that the Democratic Party must be challenged in 2004 because it didn't fight aggressively to protect our voting rights in Florida," he said in a recent issue. "I think we need to look at running a black in the primary. I have said I would be available to do it."

Sharpton said the idea came to him while he sat under a tree in Sudan, which he visited in April 2001 on a fact-finding tour about slavery.

Assume GW has the Republican nomination sewn up. Its time for all good republicans to stand up and be counted. Lets take a page from Sen. McCain’s play book. Prior to the 2004 democratic presidential primary in your state, re-register as a democrat and vote for Al Sharpton!

Wouldn’t it be great if Crazy Al won! At the very least, lets ensure he gets prime time speaking rights at the nationally televised democratic convention. You gotta love it. Line up, sign up, and send this to all your like-minded friends.

You don't think the Dims would use a Gunzbuger from Broward County, FL, to drop this choice attack, do you?

My problem is that I live in Florida and here we have a quaint law called the Baker Act. It allows obviously crazy people to be picked up and detained for observation. I'm sure you see the connection and besides who'd be left to vote?

LOL, he doesn't have a snowball's chance, and unless he is incredibly dense, he already knows this. So he must have some other reason for running. I suspect it's either ego or money, the most likely reason being the latter. No person supports Sharpton unless they are racist or totally ignorant. If anyone wins the nom, it will not be him. Maybe he will be upset about that and run as a 3rd party candidate, which will doom the Dem candidate. Don't tell Sharpton about it; what he doesn't know will hurt him.....

The DNC doesn't NEED to do any hatchet job on Sharpton as he has a zero percent chance of winning the nomination (or, frankly, winning a single primary). Further, he's unlikely to run as third party candidate as another prominent black politician from the crazy left fringe -- former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney -- already appears to be gearing up to run as a Green Party candidate for President. See www.votemckinney.org. Forget "Go, Al, Go!" What we need to be doing is encouraging McKinney to be the Green nominee for President in 2004!! That would be a major boost for W!

[Note to Holden: Yes, the guy who publishes the Politics1 site is the son of the infamous Sue Gunzburger from the 2000 recount ... but Ron's politics seem far apart from his mother's. He was a Jeb Bush supporter in '98 and '02, and has kept his Politics1 web site very even-handed. The nationa Republican Party, Christian Coalition, etc., all have links to Politics1. From his past writings on the site, I think Ron may even be a Republican ... but I'm not sure.]

I was at Caesar's Palace over New Years and I saw REVEREND Sharpton there. He must have been there to rail against the evils of gambling.

Maybe we should hope he'll run as a third party candidate and split the rats. Like when Perot ran. That's how Klintoon got elected, right?
