Will the Republicans throw it all away again in 2004?

Without a doubt. The gop congress will pass the ban extension easily, and Bush will proudly sign it.

After all they're not conservatives, they're just republicans.

And what will you do about it....vote democrat?

Regards

J.R.

In 1996, due to successful lobbying by gun owners nationwide, the house voted 239 to 173 to repeal the Assault Weapons Ban as ineffective. [10] The bill was then allowed to die in the Democrat controlled Senate and the Assault Weapons Ban stood.

The Senate was controlled by Republicans in 1996, but not by enough votes to override a Clinton veto.

Northeastern Republicans - New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Masachusetts, Vermont, Maine, will support it again.

Southern and western Republicans and some southern and western Democrats may not.

It all hangs on the narrow thread of the nest retarded lunatic who decides to use a firearm to cause mayhem and how successful he may be.

I just realized we're getting remarkably close to that time of the year when I write "The More or Less Annual Rape of the Union Address Report,

I missed that last year, but will definitely look for it this year. Thanks!

Predictions:

You will not write a letter to your Congressman and to your Senators; whereas the soccer moms will.
The law will be renewed in 2004.
The President will sign it.
You will vote for the Republican candidate anyway.

I'd like to add one more prediction to your list: There will be scores of Rinos on FR saying that Bush did absolutely the right thing by re-signing that anti-American, fascist/socialist law, and will call anyone with the gall to disagree with the CIC a "single-issue nut," or "selfish and hopelessly idealistic."

And all the rabid Bush supporters will marvel at his prowess as he screws us in order to "steal another DemocRat issue".

Precisely....And they'll be astounded that so many others on this forum seem incapable of recognizing the utter brilliance of it all. Hell, if Bush raised income taxes to above 1950's levels, they'd be enshrining him into their Hall of Fame - which is in actuality the Rino Hall of Shame - for thieving the ultimate DemoRat issue. They'd rather see the Rats completely issueless than live in a free America.

One more prediction. The NRA will have four million letters and phone calls to each elected official and the rest of the gun owners who don't belong to a gun group will sit and do nothing. Result: The NRA gets the blame for not stopping the Bill by the 95% of the gun owners who sit on the sidelines.

If the gunowners sit and wait until 2004 to see how their representatives vote on the bill, we already lost. We have to start now and we have to get all the gun groups working together.

True enough.

I'm watching a great show righ now on the Discovery Channel called "Future Guns." You might want to check it out. ....it's on for another hour (at least in my time zone).

Excellent recap of the "AW" & "Hi-Cap Mag." bans.
Not as detailed as possible, but very readable and brief enough to keep a readers attention.

Tactically I think we will have no choice but to ensure the "Bans" die NEXT YEAR!

All of the same lying seditionist who imposed this nonsense on us from the beginning have already launched their campaign to to make it permanent, as early as possible in this new session.

They want to push it's permanent extension early for the same reason we need to defeat it early, to minimize it's possible negative impact on "Our" candidates in the next election!

If this decision lingers until late in the session ('04) it will become a political "hot potato", polarizing voters and providing ample fodder for hype and hysterics by the liberals and anti RKBA forces.

Congress is "braver" early in the session, as the next election is farther away and many voters memories are short.
As the author points out, this has become less true of RKBA supporters than of the liberals and majority of voters who really have no opinion of their own outside what the media dictate.

Personally, this issue will define who I vote for in the next election, if Bush allows this garbage to be extended he WILL lose my vote!

It is imperative that we make sure all conservative office holders and future candidates understand that they CANNOT take second amendment supporters votes for granted, the bans MUST die.

It is time for RKBA supporters to go on the offensive, we will never gain our right back only fighting from a defensive position.

I don't have cable.

I just thought of a good poster. Show the picture of Chuckie Schumer with the Tec-9 and Feinstein with the AK and ask, Why is OK for them to have them and not OK for us?

Gun control has nothing to do with crime control. The gun grabbers want to keep firearms out of the hands of the American Legion and the Marine Corps League. That is their goal, not the reduction of crime. Criminals aren't the ones who protest when freedoms are taken.

Couldn't agree more. Now is the time to put the Repub's feet to the fire. If you haven't already done so be sure to check out the rest of site where the article originated: http://www.awbansunset.com

Our best bet is with the House.

Agreed

However, if it ever hits the presidents desk, he will sign it.

And then he will become another one termer just like his father. When his father started the original AW import ban then told the NRA to drop dead he pretty much sealed his fate.

I keep reading in various gun newsgroups that GW has said that he will in fact sign the bill if it comes to him but cannot verify this. If someone can find the actual quote please post it.

One more:

Pictures of the President signing this into law will be posted on the "Day in the Life" thread, followed by 150 cooing responses of: "Oooooooo, isn't it just dreamy the way his hand muscles flex when he's signing bills into law? Laura is soooooo lucky to wake up next to him every day."

I don't have cable.

You didn't miss much, as it turns out. The first half hour was good, as they focused on Marine Corps sniper rifles and ABM lasers. The last half hour just showed off the lastest "non-lethal" SWAT goodies ...tasers and sh/t like that.

I like your poster idea, btw. Another subtitle could be "Are their lives any more worthy of protection that yours?"

Anyone care to place bets that a major AW 'incident' may take place just before some crucial vote?

Or am I just being paranoid?
