FORT WORTH - An undercover police officer was in critical Thursday night after being shot in the chest.
At least one suspect was taken into custody.
Officials said the shooting occurred about 5:20 p.m. at the E-Z Mart store at New York and Elmwood avenues in southeast Fort Worth, where four undercover officers had made a drug purchase.
The officers then went into the store to make an arrest, and the officer was shot, said Lt. Jesse Hernandez, a police spokesman.
The wounded officer, whose identity was being withheld because of her undercover status, was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition after undergoing surgery.

Later radio coverage indicates the officer made a "buy" outside the store. Perp went inside, officers followed. Masked, and guns drawn. Store clerk shot officer, thinking "robbery".

Cops ought not wear masks..Sad situation, prayers for the officer. However, why did this go forward without the store employees knowing about it? Also, where was the body armor?
Anyone know how the officer is doing?

Masked, and guns drawn. Store clerk shot officer, thinking "robbery". Really bad plan. All they had to do is wait for him to come out.
Hope the clerk gets the same kind of treatment as a policeman would get if the clerk got shot in the crossfire.

The cops' original story was that she was not wearing a mask and was wearing a vest when she went in the store; when an uninvolved bystander came forward they had to change their story and release the shooter.

THE OFFICER PUSHED THE DOOR OPEN WITH HER LEFT HAND--SHE WAS HOLDING HER GUN DOWN AGAINST HER RIGHT LEG--THE OWNER OF THE STORES SON CLAIMED HE SAW THE MASK AND THE GUN--IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE FOR HIM TO SEE THE GUN.HE FIRED AND SHE WAS HIT UNDER HER LEFT ARM--SHE WAS STANDING IN THE DOORWAY AND FELL OUTSIDE ON THE SIDEWALK.HE ALMOST HAD TO BE WAITING FOR HER TO STEP IN TO THE STORE--SHE WAS WEARING A JACKET WITH A BADGE AND MARKINGS. THE GUY WAS LYING HIS HEAD OFF.THIS OFFICER IS A VERY CLOSE RELATIVE AND YOUR COMMENT ABOUT HOW THE SHOOTER SHOULD BE TREATED TELLS ME YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT OR YOU ARE JUST PLAIN STUPID.

--IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE FOR HIM TO SEE THE GUN.HE FIRED...Well that clears things up. Apparently the clerk in this store just has a habit of shooting people who come in the door.

Sounds like your getting the version of the story that they are working on for the grand jury. I hope your relative pulls through.
To: fisherman
I am so glad your close relationship gives you the far sight to see exactly what happened. Interesting how the badge and jacket appear on an undercover cop. You have some strange relationships, fish

Cops lie. It happens. We shouldn't encourage them by repeating their lies.
Good people go to jail when cops lie to protect their own careers after they make mistakes.

Thoroughly FUBAR.
Thanks. Man, I feel like a newbie.
I didn't find it on bang_list; and stopped thinking. "If it ain't there, it ain't on FR."
BTW, your search string also brings up "German police beat up undercover cops"

Masked, and guns drawn. Since when has the ski-mask become part of the police uniform?

Sorry about your kin. Don't take it personal, but in this instance I'd tend to believe the citizen.
