Jesus was almost certainly a cannabis user and an early proponent of the medicinal properties of the drug, according to a study of scriptural texts published this month. The study suggests that Jesus and his disciples used the drug to carry out miraculous healings. The anointing oil used by Jesus and his disciples contained an ingredient called kaneh-bosem which has since been identified as cannabis extract, according to an article by Chris Bennett in the drugs magazine, High Times, entitled Was Jesus a Stoner? The incense used by Jesus in ceremonies also contained a cannabis extract, suggests Mr Bennett, who quotes scholars to back his claims.
"There can be little doubt about a role for cannabis in Judaic religion," Carl Ruck, professor of classical mythology at Boston University said.
Referring to the existence of cannabis in anointing oils used in ceremonies, he added: "Obviously the easy availability and long-established tradition of cannabis in early Judaism... would inevitably have included it in the [Christian] mixtures."
Mr Bennett suggests those anointed with the oils used by Jesus were "literally drenched in this potent mixture... Although most modern people choose to smoke or eat pot, when its active ingredients are transferred into an oil-based carrier, it can also be absorbed through the skin".
Quoting the New Testament, Mr Bennett argues that Jesus anointed his disciples with the oil and encouraged them to do the same with other followers. This could have been responsible for healing eye and skin diseases referred to in the Gospels.
"If cannabis was one of the main ingredients of the ancient anointing oil... and receiving this oil is what made Jesus the Christ and his followers Christians, then persecuting those who use cannabis could be considered anti-Christ," Mr Bennett concludes.

You cant make stuff like this up. This guy was obviously smoking the ganga weed a long time before reading whatever text he used to come to his predisposed-forgone-conclusions.

GOD MADE HERB
GOD SAW THAT IT WAS GOOD
GOD GAVE IT TO MAN
Genesis 1:11
Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth"; and it was so.
Genesis 1:12
And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:29
And God said, "See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof ..."

Carl Ruck, professor of classical mythology at Boston University When did Mythology equate with expertise in Theology and Archeology? I was under the impression that Christ annointed with Olive Oil (with scented herbs), set aside for this precise purpose.

What Would Jesus Smoke?
To: HumanaeVitae
according to a study of scriptural texts published this month... The book of 2nd Opinions. Apparently Jesus needed some help since being God wasn't enough to heal people with!

You obviously have not read the Essene Gospel

Annointing oil in Biblical times would have been most likely olive oil with Frankincense or Myrhh mixed in for aroma. But to suggest Jesus was into aroma therapy or using Cannibis is pure fantasy. The power to heal in in the power of the Holy Spirit. The oil is simply extraneous to that.

For the record, I think this is ridiculous...but notice how people now are attaching their pet issues to Christianity now that it's becoming more visible in the public square...remember the recent "What would Jesus Drive?" nonsense? I think we'll be seeing more of this stuff...

Actually, the idea that a cannabis extract could have been used in early annoiting oils is not so far-fetched. We do know that it has certain healing properties. What is aggravating is the conclusion of the drawn about anooiting makes one a Christian.
Maybe the oils do have cannabis in them and maybe they would help heal eye and skin ailments. If so, lets use them in that way (i.e. allow oils to be manufactured with these extracts), the rest of this is pure smoke.

This was already posted last week and discussed in depth.

"There can be little doubt about a role for cannabis in Judaic religion," Carl Ruck, professor of classical mythology at Boston University said.
Professor of classical mythology? Ruck's comment reminds me of the introduction to Robert Graves' two-volume work on Greek mythology, in which he opines that the myth of the Olympians is based on a proto-Doric society of hallucinogenic mushroom munchers.
Here's your brain. Here's your brain on drugs. Any questions?

I don't know if Jesus smoked pot, but I sure know a lot of pot smokers who look like Jesus - the hair, the sandals, etc.

Re: "pet issues"
Freedom is not an issue! It is our life's blood!
AMERICAN CITIZENS are being warred upon by an EVIL spirit of unconstitutional nature bent on controlling the minds of the populace through FALSE PROPAGANDA and DEADLY FORCE directed by a CZAR!
"The God who gave us life gave us liberty at the same time; the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them." --Thomas Jefferson, 1774.
