Posting this reply from the Safari browser. It's very fast, and from what I've seen so far it works pretty well. Not bad for a beta release. Not bad at all!

Strangest thing just happened. I quit the Safari browser, then went to re-start it, and it won't come up! I've re-installed but still the same problem. Of course, this is BETA software, so perfection isn't expected. But it's no fun to see how great it is and then watch it fold up and quit working at all! I imagine a patch will be coming out very soon, my guess is within the next week or so.

Safari is a port of Konqueror from the LINUX side of the world. I'm pretty impressed with the speed and rendering though. Ah, well. Time to go home and back to the WinTel side of the world...[sigh]

Don't know about Omniweb, but it automatically found all my IE5.2 bookmarks without me doing anything.

I click on the open book icon just below the Back button, and near the bottom of the folder list in the lefthand column is "Imported IE Favorites." Cool.

Maybe your install got hosed. I'm not having that problem (MDD G4 1GHzDP, 1.75GB DDR RAM.)

Perhaps your Prefs file is messed up.

Try deleting this file and see if it helps -

{HOME}/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist

So much for the much-vaunted Mac "quality"...

C'mon - it's Microsoft's fault. ;-)

With this logic, it's easy to see why you're a Windoze dude, B2K. For you, "quality" = perfection. Sheesh.

In my office here, I've got a WinXP Pro box (P4 2.4GHz [533FSB] on an Asus P4S533 mobo with 1GB PC2700 DDR SDRAM) in front of me and a G4 (mirror door G4 1GHzDP with 1.75GB PC2700 DDR SDRAM) sitting a few feet to my right.

The Mac has never given me a hint of a problem. The PC I built myself, and today is the first time it's been right since I put it together on Thanksgiving Day. Yesterday I replaced the motherboard, which was the cause of all the problems. Other than that, WinXP on this box and WinXP on my previous box are nearly as stable as Mac OS X v10.2.2.

I say nearly, but all things considered, I'd say the WinXP box is 5 to 10 percent less stable overall.

That's coming from someone who regularly uses both platforms.

Sure enough, that worked! Thanks! I'll keep that Prefs file thingy in mind for future reference. Thanks again!

Just FYI, I got the browser working again. Seems to be working fine now. Also, this is beta software, so it is really rather impressive that it works as well as it does. Some companies release software that hardly works at all and call it a finished product. Apple releases software that is %90 complete and calls it a beta version, to be followed by a full release. I like the Apple way better.

It is clearly labeled as a beta version. The preference file problem should be fixed in the final release.

Did you build the Mac yourself? Maybe it is not the processor or the operating system that was the problem. When you can build your own Mac, get back to us.
