Right on! Charles used to say that he was going to run for governor of Alabama and that Rush was going to be his campaign manager. Rush had a great interview with Sir Charles in his newsletter years back.

I think Michael Savage has cast himself as a talk show "tough guy" a little too energetically. Charles Barkley actually is a tough guy--and pretty bright, too.Agree. There are one of two ways that these two guys can resolve their differences: one, Barkley and Savage meet in a debate and hash out their issues, or, two, Barkley and Savage meet in a boxing ring and slug it out. In the first scenario Savage savages Barkley by talking too fast for the Round Mound to keep up. In the second, Barkley beats Savage into a bloody pulp. The real question is which event the public would like to see. :-)

Man I sure hope someone puts this up as an audio file so we can listen to it live.
Savage exposes ignorance for what it is .... Big-mouth Barkley, "... dummy ... go dribble your basketball ... you couldn't shine my shoes"!!
ROTFALMAO

BARKLEY: Well, the thing that's interesting to me -- and this is like my biggest complaint with the whole political process and anybody...I'm trying to figure out -- they throw these words around like liberal, moderate, conservative. And we are like idiots. We sit here and choose sides. Man, I don't care what it is. Let's just solve these problems...Hey, it's our country. It's not -- he says his country. No, it's our country. We elect these guys to run the country. They're just not doing their job...Man, everything gets blamed on the Clintons, every single thing in this world. I think Bill Clinton shot JFK, too...It's funny. No matter what happen in this country, somehow, now, he went back and blamed something on Jimmy Carter. SAVAGE: If you knew your history, you'd know what I'm talking about. It's nice for you to sit there and make jokes, but...
BARKLEY: I'm not making jokes. I'm telling facts.
Am I mistaken, or is there a single fact in anything Barkley had said to that point?
To: WHATNEXT?
Well, I know Rush likes him, but I've seen a lot of stuff from this guy to make me question his conservative bona fides. I think he is conservative in some areas, but he's also kind of a flake. Of course, a lot of people probably wouldn't consider me a conservative, either. :-)

"I saw this today. I expected to be impressed by Savage. I wasn't. As a matter of fact, neither of them impressed me. "
I agree. OK, so they confronted him with an idiot. But Savage appeared more interested in being pugnacious. When Barley said something that did not make sense--that 70% --30% thing-- Savage appeared more interested in showing that he knew it didn't make sense and calling Barley a name-- could not make a coherent argument or something like that-- and impugn "your whole way of thinking"..
Fine, if you want a fight. But why do that? Actually, Barkley was trying to be on his good behavior at that point until Savage impugned his "whole way of thinking".
Savage was mainly upset that they confronted him wiht a basketball player. He could have used the occasion better than he did.

Charles Barkley is a perfect candidate for a populist Republican who gives the party a modern image that we need. Let's face it- Michael Savage isn't going to add anyone to the ranks with his angry, white male act. Barkely is a Republican, is well-known, is not shrill, has a cool persona, and speaks in the language that draws in ordinary folk. Probably a bad idea to have Savage show the ugly face of conservatism on TV while badmouthing ("shine my shoes"- i mean c'mon- that sounds bad given that Barkley is black) someone who could attract young voters and minorities. I know this is going to draw the wrath of Savage fans but that's how I see it.

I actually laughed a lot while watching it.

The Round Mound of Rebound had a tough time in the debate today. They should have found a leftist equivalent to Savage...oh wait, there isn't one!
To: modern_orthodox
I've never listened to Savage, and after reading the article, I don't think I ever will.

I missed that one! He has a book out...I'd recommend getting it, atleast at the library, I haven't read it yet...

He might be a little more conservative if he could manage to stay out of bar brawls. (Now what is NOT conservative about you)?

Sorry, comment was for B Knot.

Actually, there were several facts in what he said. For example, "We elect these guys to run the country. They're just not doing their job..."
Barkley jumped to his point so fast that you missed his "argument." His argument was just a matter of pointing out that most politicians are self-serving jerks. And he was correct about that.
(The interesting thing about this is that Barkley doesn't have a whole lot of respect for most politicians on either side of the aisle. Frankly, I don't, either.)

Michael Moore.

Savage turns me off. He is crude and rude on his program. I agree on his main topics of language, culture and borders, but his manner does not help the cause.
To: the_doc
Anyway, Barkley maneuvered an ignorant Michael Savage into saying that Barkley was a dumb jockBut not until after Savage maneuvered Barkley into saying that Savage was an *expletive*. It was over at that point.
