Police station attacked in Kosovo

Wed, Jan 22, 2003

PRISTINA, Yugoslavia - An explosive device was thrown at the regional police headquarters in western Kosovo on Wednesday night, causing some material damage, a U.N. spokesman said.

No one was injured in the blast which occurred in the town of Pec, 80 kilometers (50 miles) west of Pristina, said Andrea Angeli, a U.N. spokesman.

"As a result of the explosion some windows were broken and there is some material damage," he said. Police have cordoned off the area and are investigating the blast, Angeli said.

The device, which according to the U.N. police sources was an anti-tank missile, was fired from close range.

Kosovo, which officially remains part of Yugoslavia, has been run by United Nations (news - web sites) and NATO (news - web sites)-led peacekeepers since June 1999, after an alliances war to stop a crackdown of Serb forces against independence minded ethnic Albanians.

U.N. police are in charge of security in the province.

Yes, and both Hitler and I are fond of Interstate highways.

What's your point?

Al Quata picking a fight with the U.N. may not be in their best interest. They're Al Quatas biggest supporters (except for U.S. anti-American left wing commies )

nice try. As far as relative threats to the US go, al-Quaeda is not even in the same league as the UN.

Just an observation. When the Muslim insurgents (you know--terrorists) goes after targets we hate we cheer them, make patriotic movies about them (RAMBO III) then we act confused when they turn on us (you know like on 9/11).

This isn't terrorism. It is an act of self defense against the illegal occupiers by militants.

The UN intervened in Kosovo in defense of the Muslims. Now that they are safe, they are using their position of safety to commit attacks on those few Serbs who dare to remain, and now on the UN soldiers posted there as well.

Since the UN is the Kosovars best friend, this may seem illogical, and of course, it is. I suspect that they no longer see the UN as their ally, though. First, since the UN folks probably don't give them complete access to attack the few remaining Serbs, since the UN guys probably keep bugging them to respect the rights of Serbs, despite the UN's inability to really stop attacks on the Serbs, still it makes them an annoyance to the KLA hardliners.

And, secondly, Muslim radicals see any western face as being the enemy, even the UN guys, EU guys, who are their defacto allies.

The EU should be paying close attention. They can take pride in saving the Muslims from the Serbs. The question now, is what are they going to do with a Muslim enclave that is going to be a petri dish for growing European terror?

ABSOLUTLY NOTHING. THE ORIGINAL PLAN WAS TO CREATE A MUSLIM TERRORIST STATE THAT WILL CREATE PROBLEMS FOR EUROPE.

Gee...Khofi and Gerhardt and Jaques had better take care of that pronto. I suggest they find some votes to block while issusing statements strongly condemning the attack...and send weapons inspectors in. Oh yes....weapons inspectors are urgently needed to disarm Bosnia.
