Matt Drudge Finds His Own Place in History

Five years ago tomorrow, Matt Drudge changed the course of a presidency and helped popularize a new technology, the Internet. Yet today, the avatar of the latest techno-trend is still attached to the oldest form of communication technology - the written word.

On Jan. 17, 1998, Drudge ushered in the new era with this headline on his Web page, the Drudge Report: "BLOCKBUSTER REPORT: 23- YEAR-OLD FORMER WHITE HOUSE INTERN, SEX RELATIONSHIP WITH PRESIDENT!!!"

No longer did it take a battalion of producers and editors and lawyers to put together a news product. It took just one man, working by himself in his one-bedroom apartment in Hollywood.

I think Drudge gets about 4 or 5 million hits per day now. I met Matt Drudge at the FReeper March for Justice on Oct 31, 1998.

Drudge is a pawn for the left , nothing more. He is also a shill for hollywood lefties. Need I remind felow freepers some of Drudges great Scoops:
A.I. to change movie making. Will be history(movie flopped)
Segway to change mode of transport(Da Bomb)
Tina Brown to appear on TV (who cares and who knows her?)
To give this guy credibility on this forum is wrong.
They knew Blow job bill was caught and decided to pick their outlet for releasing it. He was a pawn and continues to be a pawn.

Whatever. The fact is, Drudge is one of the first stops on the way to getting informed every day. He has a certain fascination with hollywood, and with the management side of media, but he's always got a foot in the door on big stories before anyone, and has stories on his site you'd never, ever see on major media.

It's too bad that Monica is remembered, when it was really the harrassment charge from Paula Jones that should be remembered.

He scooped the Lewinsky story out from under Newsweek, which was still deliberating whether to run the story when he posted it on his Web site.

Actually, wasn't it more like, "Newsweek which was still deciding how to suppress the story"??
