Should Willie Brown get his hands on huge PERS fund?

When Gov. Gray Davis appointed San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown to the board that oversees California's immense public pension trust fund a few years ago, it raised more than a few eyebrows among those who had followed Brown's colorful and often unseemly political career. But as just one of many trustees of the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS), it was thought, Brown would have little real power to practice help-your-friends politics.

This is definitely a case of the fox in the hen house. The state is allready in fiscal dire straights thanks to grey davis. Now they want willie brown to guard the pensions funds. He is known as the King of Corruption. Parley

You know, I really really really hate it when politicians are described as 'colorful' and 'unseemly' instead of the more accurate 'corrupt'.

Hey, wait a minute.....Dan Walters just called Willie Brown 'colorful'.....isn't that RACIST?? Off with his head!

I'm not a CalPers member but this is Bad, a VERY BAD idea. This proposal rings of the idea that Bill Clinton had when he floated a trial balloon to use pension funds across the nation to run govermnet programs and to loan pension fund $ to struggling privately supported social intities. Fortunately that didn't fly but if this kind of money manipulation starts small, as in a Democratic socialist controlled state like Kalifornia, it may well go national before too long. Analogy of Willie Brown being in charge of the CalPers pension funds would be like watching a den of starving wolves pounce on one little chicken.
