Some here at FR (and Trent Lott) will tell you Jefferson Davis is the founder of the modern GOP.
He was interviewed in the Southern Partisan, [pp. 44, 4th Quarter 1984] . The interviewer asked, "At the Convention of the Sons of Confederate Veterans in Biloxi, Mississippi you made the statement that 'the spirit of Jefferson Davis lives in the 1984 Republican Platform.' What did you mean by that?" Trent Lott responded:
"I think that a lot of the fundamental principles that Jefferson Davis believed in are very important to people across the country, and they apply to the Republican Party.
After the War between the States, a lot of Southerners identified with the Democrat Party because of the radical Republicans we had at that time, particularly in the Senate. The South was wedded to that party for years and years and years. But we have seen the Republican Party become more conservative and more oriented toward the traditional family values, the religious values that we hold dear in the South. And the Democratic party is going in the other direction. As a result, more and more of The South's sons, Jefferson Davis' descendants, direct or indirect, are becoming involved with the Republican party. The platform we had in Dallas, the 1984 Republican platform, all the ideas we supported there - from tax policy, to foreign policy; from individual rights, to neighborhood security - are things that Jefferson Davis and his people believed in."
Lott also got Davis' citizenship restored in 1978.

Michael,
I didn't know you were a FReeper. GREAT! I wish I would have known while at CPAC as I was manning the DCChapter booth. I spoke to you about speaking at our county Republican Club in WV(still trying to pry my copy of your book away from our club president) and will be in touch about that. We'd also like to invite you to speak at one of our upcoming DCChapter events. The DC Chapter of FR just sponsored the Patriots Rally III where Curtis Sliwa (Guardian Angels founder) and Kevin Martin (who uses your book as a reference) were two of our rousing guest speakers.

I enjoyed meeting you at CPAC, and your book looks excellent -- several people were commenting about it at the FR booth. Probably most of us could use a good refresher course in the historical goals and principles of the GOP.
FRegards,
I.T.

Thank you. The book is also available on Amazon via www.republicanbasics.com. Democrats would deeply resent your e-mailing everyone you ever met about www.republicanbasics.com and Back to Basics for the Republican Party, since the media sure won't promote such a pro-GOP book!

Democrats would deeply resent your e-mailing everyone you ever met about www.republicanbasics.com and Back to Basics for the Republican Party, since the media sure won't promote such a pro-GOP book! Democrats seem to be resenting more and more things these days, and I for one find it a profoundly encouraging trend.
Here is the direct link to your book on Amazon.
