Ex-weapons inspector, a war opponent, speaks locally tonight
January 31, 2003
SAUGERTIES - Former U.N. weapons inspector Scott Ritter - making news these days because of both his opposition to war with Iraq and recent reports that he was arrested in an Internet sex sting two years ago - will speak here tonight about the possibility of U.S. military action against Saddam Hussein.
Ritter is scheduled to appear at 7 p.m. at the Frank D. Greco Senior Center at Market and Robinson streets. He'll speak for about 30 minutes, then take questions from the audience.
A former U.S. Marine, Ritter served as a U.N. weapons inspector for seven years before resigning in 1998. Since his resignation, Ritter has published two books and produced a film about U.S. policy toward Iraq and has lectured widely, stating his conviction that Iraq does not currently possess weapons of mass destruction and poses no threat to the United States.
But even as war with Iraq is becoming more likely by the day, much of the attention Ritter has received over the past two weeks has focused on his June 2001 arrest for allegedly trying to lure to a restaurant a 16-year-old girl he met on the Internet. The girl turned out to be an undercover police officer, and Ritter was arrested when they met.
Ritter, an Albany County resident, has said he is prohibited from discussing the case because the charges were dismissed and the records were sealed. The Times-Union of Albany reported he was charged with attempted endangerment of a child, a misdemeanor, and that the charge eventually was dismissed.
Ritter has suggested the arrest suddenly being brought to the media's attention was part of an attempt to silence him.
"It's a shame that somebody would bring up this old matter, this dismissed matter, and seek to silence me at this time," he said last week.
Ritter's appearance tonight is being sponsored by the Saugerties Committee for Peace and Social Justice, an organization opposed to attacking Iraq.
"We want to present an event that will educate, inform and draw people who are questioning and uncertain," said committee spokeswoman Sue Rosenberg. "We feel that being on the verge of war with Iraq, we want to get as much information as we possibly can as citizens."
Ritter is expected to speak about his experience as an inspector in Iraq and discuss his position on current U.S. policy toward Saddam. "Ritter has unique information as a weapons inspector to share," Rosenberg said.

I guess they figure the grannies will be safe because Scott only likes little girls...

When we defeat Saddam and expose his WMD, Ritter will need to find a real job. Maybe flipping burgers for little girls at Burger King ?

This statement alone demonstrates that Ritter's recent assertions are not based on his own observations. Another omission by this writer is that while Ritter was an inspector his views were the exact opposite of what he currently is stating. In that light, one would be advised to ponder Ritter's history and character and question why he has taken his current stance.

Evidently "social justice" does not extend to Ritter's potential victims.
"We feel that being on the verge of war with Iraq, we want to get as much information as we possibly can as citizens."
Then I advise they invite speakers who have a credible and current background regarding this issue and not rely on someone who has not had access to such information, and again, when he did he held a much different viewpoint.
LOL. They're the "Old U.S."
BTW, Ben & Jerry's co-founder begged for enemy of U.S. (WND) I guess the old hippies needed a "cause" to keep them busy. Playing bingo was too much work.
No Scudball: the SHAME is the fact that you tried to lure a kid to a Burger King parking lot in order to seduce her, you pervert!
