The media should ignore the poets' ranting about this.

If the First Lady had scheduled a celebratory event for teachers and their profession, would it be appropriate for the teachers to protest administration policies?

What if it were celebrating iron workers?

Or McDonald's cashiers?

Or, more aptly, painters or singers?

When the First Lady (of any administration) singles out your occupation, and your place in it, for recognition and appreciation, it is at best inappropriate and at worst classless to protest on the occasion.
