Democrats wrestle with S. Carolina boycott
By Steve Miller
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Democratic presidential candidates in South Carolina have a dilemma. The NAACP has declared a tourist boycott of the state, so how do you campaign in the state, honor the boycott and not offend voters — some of whom support the boycott, and some who don't?

Several candidates have pledged to stay out of hotels and restaurants when they're in South Carolina for the state's 2004 primary.
Other candidates, including Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut, say enjoying the state's hospitality services is unavoidable.
"[Senator] John Edwards [of North Carolina] has already indicated that his staff does not and will not stay in hotels here," said state NAACP President James Gallman. "And I think that [Rep. Richard A.] Gephardt [of Missouri] and the others will follow suit."

He probably got a traffic ticket for speeding while chasing an ambulance down 277 near the hospital here in Columbia.

Must be the boycott business. I thought he had said they neither he nor anyone from his staff would stay overnight in SC because of the boycott. Perhaps they or he violated that rule.

You are all confused! The NAACP is only a front group, the boycott was actually established by conservatives in order to keep the democratic candidates OUT!

It's worked up til' now, SHHHHHHH!

Controversy stirred by the Hillary Clinton machine? Must have been paying attention to the "numbers". Can't be drafted without taking out the competition one issue at a time.

I am so f'ing outraged that the District Attorney in Los Angeles allowed Michael Jackson to slip through the cracks and arrange a lousy civil settlement !! $ 15 million paid to the parents for their post facto permission.

The kid signed an Affidavit that he was molested .... Arrest Jackson, prosecute him, throw away the key ... Better yet, send him to Saudi Arabia and let them punish him.

Hmmm. I see a strategy developing here. All the states with Republican legislatures/governors can enact Confederate flag display laws, triggering a boycott by Democrats. Presto, no big Presidential campaign efforts needed in those state, cuz the Dems won't step foot in them. It would save the Republicans major bucks that could be devoted to efforts elsewhere.

Does anyone realize how bizarre it is for major presidential candidates to be boycotting an entire state in our union???? What will they do if NAACP decides to boycott 40 states or so??
