..and your point is? (I said Edwards was the model)
Welcome to South Carolina! Those in the western end of SC felt they needed something to compete with Pedro's giant sombrero.

He'd have to be insane to do that. He was all over SC last night on
Hardball.
Even he can't be that stupid.

LOL! Talk about your Catch 22.
BTW, it is a good time to remind that Fritz Hollings, DEMOCRAT, as governor of SC, was the one to put the flag on the capitol in the first place, in 1961.
It's frustrated me no end that he doesn't ever have to answer for this...

Sen Edward's family used to own a LOT of slaves. There are a LOT of reasons to dislike the Trial Lawyer Spokesmodel. This isn't one of them.
150 years ago (or so) my family owned a lot of slaves. It's not exactly something I'm proud of, but, believe it or not, I don't lay awake at night bemoaning my poor fortune in being born into a bloodline that did this 5 generations or so back.
I sincerely doubt that most Americans can name any ancestor farther back than their great-grandparents, and MANY would be surprised at what they learned if they did research it.
For the record, in addition to being sired by slave-owners, I am descended from explorers, horse-thieves, diplomats, and the thrones of England and Scotland.
So, I'll thank you to curtsey when you flame me.

I'm sorry, but that peach looks pornographic. Aw, annie, don't be sorry - I thought the same thing: do you think it's just us ;-)

XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX FRI FEB 07, 2003 9:35:27 ET XXXXX
EDWARDS TO HOST POLITICAL MEETING AT HOUSE OF CONFEDERATE HERO
**Exclusive**
Presidential hopeful Sen. John Edwards [D-NC] is preparing to throw caution to the wind in confederate flag-sensitive South Carolina this weekend when he celebrates his White House ambition with a political gathering at the house of a Confederate hero, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal!
MORE
Edwards has quietly set a Saturday afternoon meet 'n greet at the William Aiken House in Charleston, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
The controversial meeting at the Aiken House, sponsored by the South Carolina Democratic Leadership Council, comes as the NAACP continues its call for an economic boycott of South Carolina to protest the flying of the Confederate battle flag on the State House grounds.
South Carolina is the first Southern primary in which African-Americans are expected to make up half of the voters.
Aiken, once the South's largest slaveholder [he owned a rice plantation on Jehossee Island worked by more than 700 slaves], supported the Confederate cause by donating supplies and large bond subscriptions. Aiken turned his house over to Confederate Brigadier General Beauregard for use as a temporary headquarters during the Union shelling of lower Charleston.
When Aiken declined to attend the ceremony raising the U.S. flag over Fort Sumter after it was retaken by Union forces, the Confederate DieHard was arrested by the order of U.S. Secretary of War and was taken to Washington, D.C..

Edwards has been strategizing with bubba

Dont take that the wrong way, most people I know had at least one ancestor that owned slaves.
I was just thinking that if he tries to act like he's squeaky clean and supporting the NAACP position, someone should call him on it.

You can see the big peach from the interstate. My daughter went to college near there. They fondly called it the "big butt in the sky".

He's really a very sad young man. My heart goes out to him but he'll never sleep with MY grandchildren. He'd really be a white woman then!

I hate to repeat what an apple cut in two looks like. My mommy would swat me if I did...

I'm descended from Vikings (and you KNOW what they did!) and from Roald Amundsen. Not too bad for a little Norwegian girl from central New York, huh? And I HATE the cold. And I don't ski or like the snow either. I must be a mutant or something (and I'm no socialist either).

Dear friends of mine moved to Aiken, SC and LOVE it there. All this boycotting business is bullcrap. Why don't people just grow up and act like grownups instead of little kids?
