The bottom half layers (( pre cambrian )) of the geologic column (( no fossils )) formed from below . . .

and the top half layers (( cambrian // post cambrian )) formed rather quickly from above (( no intermediary fossils )) - - -

uniformism (( time )) // evolution is ==== gone // over // never happened .. .. .. HOAX !

Hey that's great, if you need christianity to keep your base instincts from surfacing, good for you.

If you need Christianity to lead a good life and live peacefully with your fellow man, hurray for your side.

If you need Christianity to give you a moral base, so that you can be a good person, GREAT!!

If you need Christianity to make your life worth living, well, more power to you.

I do not need the threat of eternal damnation to do any of those things, in essence, I do not need Christianity and it's threats to keep my baser instincts under control.

Christianity answers your questions, wonderful, but it doesn't even come close for me.

Thanks, but no thanks, I know history, and I know christianity. I was born and raised a Roman Catholic, then got brainwashed in a kids camp by a bunch of well meaning fanatics.

I escaped that silly stuff and have learned that there is more to life then sitting around waiting for Jesus to come back and be "saved".

I don't need saving, so go find some other sucker.

Thanks

then got brainwashed in a kids camp by a bunch of well meaning fanatics.

The "brainwashing" process is a two-way street! After the infamous Scopes trial, "fanatical" evolutionists established a false sense of scientific superiority using the novelty of a previously forbidden idea. The swelling intrigue caught many impressionable novices in its wake.

The newness of evolution theory is gone, and many qualified scientists are finally beginning to seriously question its validity as the evidence continues to mount against it.

If evolution were the cause of the universe, the proof should be mounting, especially with the multitudes dedicated to its validation. Exclusive presentation of evolution theory in America's schools for 3+ decades has become what the early evolutionists battled: dogma. Hence, that's the only basis upon which it survives today.

I explain evolution theory as "modern" humanity's excuse to NOT believe in God and the Bible. True, that's a choice each must make; but don't persuade others to follow your choice under the guise of proven science! Furthermore, one only has his/her lifetime to determine the truth; and one's lifetime is infinitely shorter than the shortest evolutionary era.

I am just so stunned to find so many clueless people on this board.

It amazes and saddens me at the same time.

To think, this is the 21st century, many of them would love to be back in the 15th.

Oh, well, but it is entertaining if not taken too seriously.

Ping. I ain't gonna register at the LA Times to read this article, but the thread may be fun anyway.

It's a good article. This scientist is observing actual speciation, in real time, in the field.

I'm going to ask the creationists what sort of twisted god would create something as cruel as the life cycle of the ichneumon wasp

Since wasps don't get much sympathy around here, I'd vote for Leishmaniasis as the Creator's finest achievement. It's for the children.

Then there are the shark species which feed their offspring in the womb by having the strongest cannibalize all their weaker siblings.

I have often wondered why man has evolved so far beyond all other observable life.

We just happened to be the ones to end up with the best brains. But as far as "evolving so far beyond all other observable life", cheetahs can run faster than anything else, whales can dive deeper, bristlecone pines can live longer, and so on. There are countless kinds of evolutionary "champions". We value brains highly because that's our own specialty. But there's nothing magical about it.

Why haven't other branches on the evolutionary tree created a group of animals that exhibit comparable degrees of creativity,

Someone species has got to be #1 in that regard. It happens to be us. And thus we sit down and ponder how amazing that, by gosh, it's us.

No symphony of the Dolphin King. No ancient ruins in the cliffs of the Lizard people. No roadways of the Australian kangaroos. No obstacle course of the giant seahorse races.

On the other hand, humans haven't managed to turn the Earth from an oxygen-deprived planet to an oxygen-rich planet, like the cyanobacteria, nor have we managed to create layers of limestone thousands of feet thick all over the planet, nor have we been able to last tens of millions of years like other species.

According to most evolutionists sea animals have had the longest amount of time to evolve. Why are they so stunted?

What do you mean? They evolved into *us* (and all other land-based life) which seems a pretty nifty accomplishment.

Definitive answers on this seem to be non-existent.

See above.

Man was wonderfully made to have dominion over the entire earth.

So were the dinosaurs. It's just our turn at the moment.

Please consider why a wide gulf separates us from all other creatures.

I don't see it as being nearly as wide as you do. Just a few thousand years ago our ancestors were living little better than chimpanzees (and chimps are more intelligent, social, and tool-using than most people give them credit for).

And it's far from certain whether our intelligence is in the long run going to be a blessing or a curse. A thousand years from now, mankind could well be extinct by his own hand.

...or so creationists try to console themselves. It's not true.

If evolution were the cause of the universe, the proof should be mounting, especially with the multitudes dedicated to its validation.

And it has, in enormous floods. Try reading the science journals sometime.

Hence, that's the only basis upon which it survives today.

No, it survives because of growing mountains of evidence for it. That's what we call science.

I explain evolution theory as "modern" humanity's excuse to NOT believe in God and the Bible.

Then clearly you don't understand it.

You folks have really *got* to try reading something other than your insular creationist sources sometime.

Hello,

I’m truly sorry to seemingly continue to badger you. Hopefully you will at least find some of this information entertaining.

There are many things that are spiritual significant to the world we live in.

1. History tells us that the Jewish people were invaded by the Romans and run out of Israel in 70AD.

2. For the following 19 centuries the Jews were scattered literally all over the world.

3. During the time that the Jews were dispersed they did not, on any occasion, attempt to take over the world. (Unlike with varying success; Roman Emperors, Constantine, Islam, Napoleon, Hitler, Stalin ...) And yet the Jews are nearly universally hated.

4. No other race of people has been scattered as broadly as the Jews and has retained their racial identity beyond 4 generations. (less than 100 years) And yet the Jews have for 1,870 years.

5. During the 19 centuries the Jews were scattered most of the Christian church believed that they had replaced Israel in Biblical Prophecy which stated that the chosen people of God would be regathered into the Land that God gave them. (Most in the Christian Church believed that Israel could never be regathered)

6. In 1947 the land of Israel was given back to the Jewish people largely because of the guilt attached to the Holocaust.

7. In 1968 the city of Jerusalem was reestablished as the capital of Israel.

8. Communism fell in the late 1980's and early 1990's which enabled millions of Jews behind the Iron Curtain to migrate back to Israel. Barely ten years ago.

9. Jews make up less than one quarter of one percent of the worlds population. And yet 25 percent of the Nobel prizes have been awarded to Jews.

10. 62 percent of the total resolutions drafted by the U.N. are against the state of Israel.

11. The city of Jerusalem has no secular value to any nation in the world. (No port, no ready water source, no trade route significance) Yet Jerusalem is the center of all of the worlds focus TODAY.

12. The ancient language of Hebrew has been resurrected as the national language of Israel after 1800 years of relative disuse. Modern citizens of Israel are taught Hebrew.(God is preparing a group of people to be Biblically literate for His purposes)

I am just so stunned to find so many clueless people on this board.

It amazes and saddens me at the same time.

To think, this is the 21st century, many of them would love to be back in the 15th.

Oh, well, but it is entertaining if not taken too seriously.

Satan hates God, and will go to any lengths to oppress and destroy the people that God chose to bring the Biblical message.

God evidently has the upper hand on history and is preparing to faithfully continue fulfilling his promises.

You folks have really *got* to try reading something other than your insular creationist sources sometime.

"But to my mind, the most memorable moment in these last few weeks of genetic astonishments came during an interview with computer scientist Gene Myers at the Maryland headquarters of Celera Genomics, just a few days before the genome maps were made public.

'We're deliciously complex at the molecular level,' Myers said, gesturing with his fork. 'We don't understand ourselves yet, which is cool. There's still a metaphysical, magical element.'

Myers was the guy who put together Celera's genome map. Celera's sequencing machines had broken the 3 billion chemical letters in a strand of DNA into millions of fragments, each a few hundred letters each. 'What really astounds me is the architecture of life,' he said. 'The system is extremely complex. It's like it was designed.'

My ears perked up.

Designed? Doesn't that imply a designer, an intelligence, something more than the fortuitous bumping together of chemicals in the primordial slime?

Myers thought before he replied. 'There's a huge intelligence there. I don't see that as being unscientific. Others may, but not me.'"

bondserv - The statistical evidence is begining to appear to work against 15 to 20 billion years being enough time. (DEVELOPING) Please continue to have an open mind. I promise to continue trying to consider all of the evidence as well.

Consider a 3.5-inch floppy disc. The hardware consists of a design that has a hard case surrounding a flat magnetic floppy disc. A designed spring loaded mechanism protects the disc from exposure.

Floppy discs are a neat piece of engineering hardware. Information was used to create a mold to make the casing. Information was used to make the magnetic disc material. Designed to perform a specific task.

Animals are like a floppy disc. They have no ability to create anything beyond what they were designed to do.

Humans are like a floppy disc, but we also have special information recorded on the disc. The information has no mass so is not constrained by our time domain. (eternal) And yet that information is completely unique.

With this added information blossoms a creative ability. The ability to process extremely complex ideas and form a symphony of music. A motorcycle that races past a cheetah. A submarine that sends us fathoms deeper than any whale. Our unique ideas that can affect the world and live longer than any bristle cone pine.

A floppy disc can't type. But a floppy disc with you recorded in it can. The ants at the world trade center won't be missed. Who the people who died were, will be remembered for generations.

We value brains highly because that's our own specialty. But there's nothing magical about it.

We are relatable personalities that love. Not just specialized brains. If, God forbid, you raised a child and saw their individuality develop before your eyes, and that child died, I bet you would miss that magical person that was more than just a valuable brain. You will never wonder what a dead pet would have become.

1968=1967

Got those flip flopped.

The Scientific American addressed this basic question quite eloquently. Here ya go (please do your son a favor, and pass this along!) The response applies to fish just as well as monkeys...

6. If humans descended from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?

This surprisingly common argument reflects several levels of ignorance about evolution. The first mistake is that evolution does not teach that humans descended from monkeys; it states that both have a common ancestor.

The deeper error is that this objection is tantamount to asking, "If children descended from adults, why are there still adults?" New species evolve by splintering off from established ones, when populations of organisms become isolated from the main branch of their family and acquire sufficient differences to remain forever distinct. The parent species may survive indefinitely thereafter, or it may become extinct.
