SYDNEY (Reuters) - More than 700 women posed nude on Saturday to protest against Australia's likely involvement in a potential war against Iraq.
Lying naked end to end on a grassy knoll in the Australian beach town of Byron Bay, they formed a heart around the words "No War" for an aerial photograph.
Australia has sent troops and approved fighter jet deployments to join U.S. and British forces in the Gulf preparing for a possible war in Iraq, but has yet to publicly commit itself to joining any military action in Iraq, whether U.N.-approved or U.S.-led.
The women, ranging in age from about 20 to 60, gathered on a hillside in the beachside artists' haven in the far north of New South Wales state.
One middle-aged woman had the words "Bare it all for the boys Down Under" written down her back.
"I really realize now when I look up here and see all these women, they're desperate to let our prime minister hear how very very angry they are at what he's doing and how much they disagree with what's happening," organizer Grace Knight told Australian Broadcasting Corp Radio.
"If you just look over there, that's a lot of women who don't agree with what's going on," she said.
A local police spokesman said the protest was on private property and not visible to the public.
Knight said aerial photos would be distributed to garner publicity for the women's stance that Prime Minister John Howard should recall Australian troops already deployed in the Middle East.
The pre-deployment of troops has opened a sharp political divide. On Wednesday, the opposition-controlled Senate passed a symbolic vote of no confidence in Howard.
The Australian protest echoed a similar one in New York where nude women formed the words "No Bush" to demonstrate against U.S. President George Bush's hardline stance against Iraq.
There were smaller anti-war protests elsewhere on Saturday in New South Wales and adjoining Queensland state.
Howard left Sydney on Saturday on a week-long trip in which he plans to meet with Bush as well as U.N., British and Indonesian leaders.

Hum...Alot of anti-war women like to take off their clothes. Are they trying to horrify us, or are they trying to get our attention?

I'm rolling my eyes right now. I have no words for these women. Their idiocy has left orbit and is now hurtling through space and time to make a mark against humanity by any aliens who are watching this on their super-duper high tech monitors.
Or, maybe these women are aliens who think they can make a difference by appearing as nekkid women. Or should that be "wimyn?", "wimmin?"
Ick.

They wouldn't be treating us to all this nudity if it wasn't for the war. Leave it to liberals to frustrate their own cause.

If that all it takes to get woman to strip then I'm happy to be pro-war. I think I should make a t-shirt with "I'm Pro-war," on it maybe one of the woman protesters will see it and go buff.

Yeah, it makes a lot of sense.
"If you men don't stop fighting, all the women are gonna take their clothes off..."
8 bazillion 13-year-old boys just tried to register for the draft.
To: Luna
I'm overwhemed by the futility of this action.
Really, what does making anti-war slogans out of hordes of naked women hope to accomplish? Has the build up to war slowed down one bit? Does Saddam feel any safer? Are the powers behind the war worried about naked women forming letters?
>>>Most people just laugh at this. The anti-war message is lost! Not that I want to help the left, but there has got to be a better way to "spead" their message.
The futility of this event is dramatic. The left is completely out of ideas. All I hear is false, unsupportable assertions from the Left. They are truely out of ideas.

Sometimes I hate living in Kansas where people are boring.
These women's American couterparts spelled "NO BUSH" when they did it. In the picture I saw there was too much bush, and much of it in the wrong places.

Well... out of ideas and this draws media coverage. I think on one level these protests are mocking the fact that the media likes to showcase naked women anyway- and this way they're at least getting a message out at the same time. 700 women holding signs is boring. 700 naked women... now that has more newsworthy potential.
If someone has any background on how these protests got started, I'd like to read about it. I posted on another thread that it had its roots in a "shaming" practice in some parts of Africa where women in the village would appear naked in front of men who were misbehaving as a way of showing collective disapproval. So who imported the custom?

How about a T-shirt that says something like:
"Strip, if you're anti-war!"
or
"Let's do it for Saddam"
how about
"I'm a lesbian trapped in a man's body." (whoops, wrong theme...)

What do you think the average Iraqi would do when he sees this group. On second thought send them over there and see if they can generate some strokes.

"No war"? That's the best they could do?! With 700 naked Sheilas in attendence, you'd think that they could have spelled out "Just say no to burqas and the sexist repression of Muslim women by an abusive and unjust patriarchal society" or words to that effect. Or perhaps I'm just missing the point.

I suppose to the peacenik mind (an oxymoron, I know) the act of stripping naked and playing this full-frontal Scrabble on a hillside is the ultimate expression of sincerity and determination, one before which entire armies and governments will wither and fall.
Wrong. But it is amusing, and yes the aliens have now pencilled in humanity among the lower vertebrates as a result of this mass bush alignment spectacle. Perhaps if we had a bunch of young lovelies forming a lightning bolt and spelling out the words "kick some ass for me", our troops would be encouraged.

What would be kinda fun would be doing a southern opposition political move an event like this. If you hear anyone doing something like this....a couple nights before the event get a couple bags of sugar and spread it gererously throughout the area. Let's just say it is best if fire ants are in the area.
To: Emeraldgold
If that all it takes to get woman to strip then I'm happy to be pro-war. You may have come up with the greatest Pick-Up line of the new century:
"Hey Baby! I'm pro-war. Wanna get naked?"
As a friend of mine used to say, "It might only work one time out of 100, but that one time . . . Whoa BABY!"

Aint that the truth and this dumbroads dont even GET IT!
Under Muslim rule they would be relegated to having babies and keeping their place and their mouths shut...they will be well taken care of ...daily training/beatings...and never have to worry about fashion again..
Not to mention their ability to orgasim severly truncated...
And they still support these bastages...
they are severly deluded..

Totally stolen // not credited (( against the rules here )) . . .
((Funny stuff...
Here's one for you: ("bird" is slang for woman btw)
A bloke walks into a bar with an ostrich and cat. They all sit down at a table and the man goes to the bar and says, "A pint of Bitter for myself, a Gin & Tonic for the ostrich and a Scotch for the cat".
The Barman is a little perplexed but serves the drinks anyway.
Sometime later the ostrich goes to the bar and says, "A G&T for myself, a pint of bitter for the guv'nor and a whisky for the cat."
The barman is even more bemused but still serves the drinks.
This goes on all evening with the man and the ostrich alternately buying rounds of drinks, but the cat never does. By the end of the evening the barman asks the man, "Look, whats the story? I have to know, why do you have an ostrich and a cat? And how come the cat never buys a round?"
"Well it's quite a story," says the man. "I was walking down the road one day when I found a bottle. I uncorked this bottle and Genie came out and said, `Oh thank you for releasing me, oh Master, what is your heart's desire? Tell me and it shall be yours.'
"So I asked for a bird with long legs and a tight p***y." ))
... funny !
