Please correct me if I'm wrong, but... once the jury renders a verdict, doesn't the judge, and not the jury, decide on a sentence?

Here's hoping she gets life... Granted, he was a real jerk, but he surely didn't deserve death.

Since she is a murderer, why doesn't she deserve death? Just curious.

She had a choice whether to go with a trial by jury or not. Since she chose to go with a jury, the jury decides the penalty. I'm pretty sure that is what the analysts said.
