Jack Straw made a funny comment...
Posted on 02/15/2003 11:25:04 AM PST by connell
...and I missed it. Yesterday, in his presentation in the Security Council, British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said something at which everyone laughed. Can anyone tell me what it was? At the moment he said it, I was busy explaining to my girlfreind that Joska Fischer is a COMMUNIST THUG WHO ONCE BEAT A POLICE OFFICER NEARLY TO DEATH (or so I heard on Hugh Hewitt's show).

I think that in response to the French statement that they were an old and wise country (itself a response to Rumsfeld's comment about "old Europe"), Straw said that his country was old as well. It went all the way back to 1066, and was founded by France.
To: connell
I believe his comment was that France founded Britain in 1066 A.D.

Something about England being founded by the French in 1066.

Which is, in fact, a ridiculous statement. Britain was around a long time before it assimilated the Normans.

The French poodle strted his comments saying he was from an "old country" and blah blah blah...the when it was Straws turn he hais that "I too am from an old country, founded in 1066 by the French"...every one laughed, but it wasn't really very funny...until you put it into context with Rummy's comments about "Old Europe". FiFi the French Poodle tried to stick it to Rummy with his old comment and then Straaaaw threw it right back at him. In that context it was amusing.

In addition to taking part in the beating of the policeman, Fischer was also accused of being the one who threw a molotov cocktail at another cop who burned to death as a result. (The incendiary device was certain, WHO threw it was less so, but Fischer was 'fingered' by a fellow 'revolutionary' later.)

The following is excerpted from
http://www.punditmag.com/articles/030802pr.html "Meanwhile, Joshka Fischer's credibility was crippled when it was proven that he had viciously assaulted a police officer during a violent student demonstration in the 1960s. All told, what had began as a dream opportunity for the ecologists quickly become a nightmare - one that could have dire consequences for the party in next fall's election."

The Normans were more Norse than French.

More on Fischer, excerpted from
http://www.tnr.com/082701/berman082701_print.html> "Last January, Stern magazine in Germany published a set of five grainy photographs of Joschka Fischer, the German foreign minister and vice chancellor, as a young bully in a street battle in Frankfurt. It was April 1973. The photos showed: a figure in a black motorcycle helmet, labeled as Fischer, facing off against another figure in a white policeman's helmet ... "

Straw was funny, French ambassador was outright both arrogant and foolish. Powell topped them all stating "America is a relatively new country but we're the world's oldest democracy"
To: thinktwice
The question thus becomes: why is this information of Fischer not more generally known? Where is Fox News on this?

Also, when Colin Powell began his comments, he said he represented a fairly young country, the USA, which was founded by Great Britain. He went on to say that the USA is the world's oldest democracy, and we are proud of that fact.
Of course, in reality we are a Republic and not a democracy, but I still liked his subtle dig at the French and Germans, nonetheless.

The Vikings camped in France took all the good looking women to Iceland and left the hairy armpit anorexic ones..
France is old all right...and like wine and cheese some is improved and others just mold sour and stinks to high Heaven...
France is of course the latter imo

An excellent article on Joschka Fischer can be found at the National Review's website. The title: "Berlins New Anti-American Axis". It details how the current foreign minister of Germany, Fischer, had ties with infamous terrorist Carlos the Jackal, the KGB, and the Baader-Meinhof gang.
It is written by: "General Ion Mihai Pacepa, the highest-ranking intelligence officer ever to have defected from the former Soviet bloc. He is currently finishing a new book, Red Roots: The Origins of Today's Anti-Americanism." It should be a good read.

Thank's for the heads up to that informative website.
Germany is not, at the moment, in good hands.
